Chapter 10 - Forever Home

Spring returned to our valley with an explosion of bright green shoots, blooming cherry blossoms, and warm, golden sunlight that chased away the last lingering chill of winter.

On a bright Sunday afternoon in April, exactly one year since the afternoon at the dumpster, our family gathered in the backyard. We hadn't planned a formal ceremony, but as we walked out onto the emerald-green grass, we all seemed to share the same quiet thought.

Liam carried a small wicker basket filled with a brand-new batch of pastel-colored bunnies—the latest creations for the children’s hospital, each one stitched with extra care, featuring soft yarn and brave little notes tucked neatly into their pockets.

We stood beneath the great oak tree in the corner of the yard, where Elena’s favorite wooden bench sat, freshly painted and bathed in dappled sunlight.

"Should we test them out?" Liam asked, holding up a bright yellow bunny with one long ear and one short ear.

"I think they're ready for the world, buddy," David said, smiling softly as he placed his hand gently on Liam's shoulder.

Liam smiled back, that radiant, unbroken smile that proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that love always wins in the end. He placed the basket gently on the bench, right beside a vase of freshly picked spring wildflowers.

We stood together—three generations of a family forged through sorrow, tested by adversity, and ultimately redeemed by an unshakeable, enduring love. The past was honored, the present was joyful, and the future stretched out before us like an open, beautiful road filled with endless light.
