Chapter 10 - A New Dawn for the Wakefields

One year later, the Wakefield estate hosted a celebration unlike any it had seen in a decade.
It was Luna’s eighth birthday.
The grand lawns were decorated with colorful balloons, a massive bouncy castle, and tables overflowing with cakes, sweets, and treats. Children from Luna’s new school ran around, playing tag and filling the air with joyful shouts.
Luna was the center of it all, wearing a bright yellow sundress, her brown hair fully grown back, flowing in thick, healthy waves around her radiant, smiling face.
Marcus was at the grill, flipping burgers with a massive grin, while Thomas stood by the entrance, greeting guests with a proud, happy smile, looking more like an affectionate uncle than a security guard.
Richard stood on the patio, watching the party. He looked younger, the stress lines completely gone from his face, dressed in a casual linen shirt. As Julia walked up beside him, wearing a beautiful green dress that complemented her eyes, he naturally slipped his arm around her waist, pulling her close.
Over the past year, their shared bond of survival and healing had grown into something deeper, a profound, mature love built on mutual respect, trust, and a shared devotion to the little girl playing on the lawn. They had become a real family, bound not by blood, but by choice and survival.
Luna noticed them standing together. She paused her game, waved frantically at them with a massive smile, and shouted across the lawn:
“Daddy! Julia! Come play!”
“We’re coming, sweetie!” Julia called back, her voice bright and full of life.
Before they stepped down into the grass, Richard caught Julia’s hand, pulling her gently to a stop. He looked into her eyes, his expression deeply earnest.
“Thank you, Julia,” he whispered, his voice filled with the weight of a thousand unspoken emotions. “For bringing the light back into this house. For giving us a future.”

Julia smiled, leaning up to press a soft, loving kiss to his cheek. “Thank you for letting me in, Richard. We built this future together.”
With their hands tightly intertwined, they walked down the steps into the sunshine, joining the laughter of the child who had only three months to live—but who now had a lifetime of happiness stretching out beautifully before her.
