Chapter 7 - The Ocean Breeze

Two weeks later, the morning air in Boa Viagem was crisp, salty, and alive with the sound of breaking waves.

The black luxury sedan pulled smoothly through the wrought-iron security gates of Roberto’s beachfront estate, rolling up the paved drive toward a sprawling, modern mansion of glass, white stone, and tropical wood.

In the back seat, Ana pressed her face against the tinted glass, her eyes wide with wonder. The sprawling lawns were lush and green, dotted with swaying palm trees and vibrant bougainvillea blossoms. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the house, she could see the endless blue expanse of the Atlantic Ocean glittering under the morning sun.

"Is this... is this really where we live now?" Ana whispered, turning to Roberto, who sat beside her.

"Every bit of it," Roberto smiled, opening the car door.

Lia, now fully recovered, chubby-cheeked, and dressed in a bright yellow sundress that matched the one she had worn in the alley, let out a happy gurgle and reached her arms out toward Roberto. He scooped her up effortlessly, hoisting her onto his hip as he stepped out onto the paved drive.

Waiting on the wide front veranda was Mrs. Silva, seated in a comfortable motorized wheelchair, looking healthier and stronger than she had in years, her cheeks carrying a natural rosy glow. Behind her stood a team of professional nurses and household staff, smiling warmly to welcome them.

"Welcome home, children," Mrs. Silva said, her voice trembling slightly with emotion as Roberto wheeled her forward to greet them.

Ana ran up the steps and threw her arms around her grandmother, burying her face in her shoulder. "Grandma! Look at the ocean! Look at our new room!"

Roberto walked up the steps carrying Lia, looking out over the sparkling sea. For three years, this house had been a mausoleum—a monument to grief, silence, and isolation. Every room had echoed with the ghost of what he had lost.

Now, the halls echoed with the sound of a toddler’s laughter, the chatter of an eight-year-old girl exploring her new world, and the quiet, dignified presence of a grateful grandmother.

Eduardo walked up behind him, holding a small tablet. "Mr. Acevedo, the press release for the global launch of the Clara and Lia Foundation went out this morning. Stock prices are up twelve percent, and humanitarian organizations across Brazil are flooding our offices with partnership requests."

"Put the work away, Eduardo," Roberto said, smiling down at Lia as she reached out to tug playfully at his tie. "Today, we don't look at numbers."

Eduardo smiled, slipping the tablet into his briefcase. "Yes, sir. Enjoy your day off."
