Chapter 10 - Happily Ever After

The wedding was nothing like the high-society spectacles the Hamptons tabloids usually obsessed over.

There were no red carpets, no artificial ice sculptures, no guest lists filled with politicians and tech titans who only cared about networking. Instead, it was held right there on the clifftop lawn of the Reed estate, under a canopy of ancient oaks strung with simple fairy lights.

The air smelled of fresh lavender, roasting herbs, and the salty mist of the Atlantic.

Only those who truly mattered were present: loyal staff who had become family, local friends from Montauk who had known Maya since she was a struggling student, and a handful of trusted colleagues who had watched Maxwell’s miraculous transformation from a grieving machine into a loving father and man.

Jacob, now walking steadily on his own two feet, served as the most enthusiastic ring bearer in history. Wearing a simple linen shirt matching his father’s, he toddled down the flower-petal-strewn aisle, clutching a small wooden box tightly in his chubby hands before promptly dropping it at Maya’s feet, to the laughter and cheers of everyone gathered.

As Maya walked down the aisle on the arm of an old family friend who had looked after her in her youth, Maxwell stood at the altar waiting for her.

He didn't look like the untouchable billionaire titan the world wrote articles about. He looked like a man standing in the light for the very first time. His eyes shimmered with unshed tears of pure joy as he watched her approach.

When Maya reached him, he took her hands in his—hands that were strong, warm, and real.

“Do you, Maxwell, take Maya to be your wife, to walk with her through every storm and every calm, to love her and build a home together always?” the officiant asked.

“I do,” Maxwell said, his voice ringing out strong, clear, and certain across the lawn.

“And do you, Maya, take Maxwell to be your husband, to share your life, your heart, and your peace with him always?”

“I do,” Maya smiled, her eyes shining with unshed tears of happiness.

“I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”

When Maxwell pulled Maya into his arms and kissed her, the applause from the small gathering rose up like a wave, accompanied by the joyful gurgles of little Jacob clapping his hands in delight.

There were no more screams in the night. No more sterile walls or cold rooms of grief. The house was filled with the music of life, the warmth of genuine laughter, and a love that didn't need millions of dollars to prove its worth.

Years would pass, empires would rise and fall, but inside the walls of the Reed estate, one thing would always remain constant: the windows were wide open, letting the clean, sweet air of the world rush in, forever keeping the shadows at bay.
