Chapter 6 - The Uninvited Guest

The Continental Club was an exclusive private lounge catering to Manhattan’s elite, featuring mahogany-paneled walls, crystal chandeliers, and a strict policy of absolute discretion. Tonight, however, the private VIP suite on the top floor was hosting a very different kind of elite.
Carlo Vitale sat at the head of the long conference table, swirling a glass of amber scotch. He wore a smug smile, his fingers resting casually near the lion's head pin on his lapel. Around the table sat the high-ranking capos who had betrayed Damiano, murmuring quietly among themselves as they waited for Salvatore Conti to arrive and sign the final transfer documents.
"It's done," Carlo announced, raising his glass. "Falcon is out of the picture. The estate is secured. By tomorrow morning, this family answers to a new standard."
Before anyone could raise a glass in toast, the heavy oak double doors at the end of the suite didn't just open—they blasted inward with a deafening crash, splintering into a thousand pieces as heavy iron boots kicked them off their hinges.
The room went dead silent.
From the smoke and shadows of the hallway stepped Damiano Falcone.
He wasn't wearing his coat. He wasn't wearing his black leather gloves. His sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, revealing the clean, unblemished skin of his forearms, save for the faint white scar across his thumb. Behind him stood Stefano and the three loyal capos, their weapons drawn and leveled with terrifying precision at every traitor in the room.
Carlo dropped his glass. The scotch spilled in a dark amber pool across the mahogany table.
"D-Damiano?" Carlo stammered, scrambling backward in his chair, his face draining of all color until he looked like a corpse. "That's... that's impossible. We locked you in the cellar!"
Damiano walked slowly toward the center of the room, his footsteps echoing like a death knell against the hardwood floor. He didn't raise his voice. He didn't need to. The sheer aura of terrifying authority radiating from him commanded absolute silence.
"You forgot one rule, Carlo," Damiano said softly, stopping just three feet from the trembling traitor. "Never underestimate what a man will do when he has something pure left to protect."
Carlo reached frantically for the pistol holstered at his belt, his hands shaking so violently he could barely grip the handle.
"Kill him!" Carlo screamed to the other men at the table. "Shoot him!"
Not a single capo moved. They looked at Damiano, then at their own weapons, realizing in a blinding flash of terror that the men standing behind Damiano had them outmatched, outflanked, and out-gunned. The loyalty they thought they had bought with Salvatore’s money dissolved instantly into dust.
Stefano stepped forward, grabbing Carlo by the collar of his suit jacket and dragging him violently across the table, sending papers and glasses flying everywhere. Stefano pressed the barrel of his pistol squarely between Carlo's eyes.

"It's over, Carlo," Stefano whispered.
Damiano looked down at the terrified traitor, his expression completely devoid of mercy. "Take the ledger, Stefano. Hand him over to federal custody with all the evidence attached. Let him spend the rest of his natural life wondering why he ever thought he could outsmart a Falcone."
