Chapter 8 - The Boardroom Confrontation

At 8:55 AM, the executive penthouse boardroom on the 70th floor of the Whitmore Dynamics Tower was filled with the city's most powerful corporate figures.
A massive mahogany conference table stretched across the center of the room, overlooking a breathtaking panoramic view of the Manhattan skyline. Sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, illuminating expensive suits, crystal water carafes, and stacks of legal documents.
Cassandra Whitmore sat at the head of the table, wearing an elegant, ice-blue designer suit. Next to her sat Victor Sterling, the Chief Technology Officer, a cold-eyed man in his fifties with immaculate gray hair and an expensive gold watch.
"Everything is set, Cassandra," Victor whispered, sliding a thick leather-bound binder toward her. "The medical evaluations signed by my brother Dr. Sterling are attached. Once the board signs off on Adrian’s permanent cognitive incompetence, the vote will be unanimous. Power of attorney transfers to you immediately."
Cassandra took a deep breath, adjusting her diamond necklace. A subtle, triumphant smile touched her lips. "And what about the lab down below?"
"Being scrubbed as we speak," Victor replied under his breath. "By noon today, Facility Seven won't exist."
At precisely 9:00 AM, the heavy double doors at the entrance of the boardroom clicked open.
Two security guards ushered in a wheelchair. Sitting in the wheelchair was a man in a dark suit, wearing dark black sunglasses, his head tilted slightly toward the floor, a white folding cane resting across his lap.
It was me.
Cassandra instantly adopted her practiced, grief-stricken, devoted wife persona. She rose from her seat with a dramatic sigh and rushed toward the entrance.
"Oh, Adrian, darling," she cooed softly, stepping in front of the wheelchair for the benefit of the twelve board members watching. "I am so sorry to drag you out here today, my love. But the board needed your presence just to finalize the administrative transition. Don't worry, sweetie, I'm right here. I will handle everything for you."
She reached out to lay her hand on my shoulder, just as she had done every day for six months.
I raised my arm and slapped her hand away with deafening force.
The loud SNAP of my hand striking hers echoed through the silent boardroom like a gunshot.
Cassandra gasped, pulling her wrist back, her face flushing bright red with shock and embarrassment. "Adrian! What is wrong with you?! You are confused—"
I didn't answer her. Instead, I slowly reached up with both hands, took hold of my black sunglasses, and pulled them off my face.
I looked directly into her eyes. My vision was ninety percent restored—sharp, clear, and focused entirely on the horror dawning across her face.
"I am not confused, Cassandra," I said, my voice ringing through the room with absolute, unshakeable power. "In fact, for the first time in six months... I see everything with perfect clarity."
The entire boardroom erupted into stunned murmurs. Board members gasped and stood up from their chairs.
"He... he can see?" someone gasped.
"What is the meaning of this?!" another director shouted.
Cassandra retreated two steps, her eyes widening in sheer, unadulterated terror. Her face drained of all color until she looked like a ghost. "Adrian... your... your eyes... how..."
"How am I seeing you?" I stood up from the wheelchair, standing at my full six-foot-two height, casting a long shadow across the polished floor. "Because I stopped taking the neuro-paralytic poison you and Dr. Sterling were administering to me every night under the guise of medicine!"
"He's insane!" Victor Sterling suddenly shouted, slamming his hands onto the table as he stood up, his face contorted in panic. "Security! Remove him! Mr. Whitmore is suffering from a acute psychotic break brought on by his head trauma! He doesn't know what he's saying!"

"Don't move a single inch, Victor," a commanding voice boomed from the doorway.
Marcus stepped into the boardroom, flanked by four armed Federal Agents in blue jackets. And walking beside Marcus, holding his hand, was little Lily.
