Chapter 9 - A Legacy of Light

The reception that followed was a celebration of life, laughter, and unbreakable bonds. Long tables were set up under fairy-lit tents on the lawn, laden with gourmet food, champagne, and a magnificent five-tier wedding cake.
During the toasts, William stood up, holding a glass of champagne in one hand while his other arm rested comfortably around Esther’s waist, with Grace sitting happily on his lap playing with her dessert spoon.
“Ten years ago, I thought I knew what success was,” William began, his deep voice carrying clearly across the quiet gathering. “I thought power, wealth, and control were the ultimate achievements. But life has a way of stripping away everything artificial to show you what truly matters.”
He looked down at Esther, then at Grace, his eyes shining with profound gratitude.
“I lost ten years of my life to a lie. I lost ten years of watching my daughter grow, ten years of holding the woman I loved. But looking around tonight, I realize something extraordinary: the darkness tried to bury us, but it forgot that we were seeds. We didn’t just survive; we bloomed.”
Applause rippled through the crowd, many guests wiping away stray tears of emotion.
“To Esther, my heart, my soul, and my anchor,” William raised his glass. “And to Grace, my greatest blessing. Welcome home, my loves.”

“To home!” the guests chorused, clinking their glasses together in a symphony of crystal rings.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in vibrant strokes of orange, purple, and gold, the string quartet transitioned into a lively waltz. William pulled Esther onto the dance floor, spinning her gracefully under the canopy of twinkling fairy lights. Grace joined them shortly after, grabbing the hem of Esther’s dress and spinning in circles until she got dizzy and collapsed into laughter against William’s knees.
