Chapter 10 - The Beautiful Sunset

The wedding was held on the private beach behind their Ventnor home. It was an intimate affair, attended only by their closest friends—Jenna, Dr. Evans, Marco, and a few of Claire’s fellow nurses from the clinic. The ceremony was performed by a genuine, kind-hearted local minister.
Claire walked down the sandy aisle wearing a simple, elegant white lace dress, holding a bouquet of bright yellow sunflowers. Leo, wearing a tiny tuxedo, served as the ring bearer, proudly carrying the velvet box to his father.
Luca stood at the altar, looking incredibly handsome in a sharp black tuxedo. As Claire reached him, he took both her hands in his, his eyes locked onto hers, completely oblivious to the rest of the world.
Their vows were simple, spoken from the heart, filled with references to storms survived and horizons discovered together. When the minister pronounced them husband and wife, a roar of applause erupted from the small gathering.
The reception lasted long into the night, filled with laughter, delicious food, and music that drifted across the waves. As the guests began to say their goodbyes, Luca led Claire down toward the water’s edge, away from the lights of the pavilion.
The moon was full, casting a long, silver path across the dark Atlantic Ocean. The waves rolled gently over their bare feet as they stood side by side, their fingers intertwined, the diamonds on her finger catching the moonlight.
“Are you happy, Mrs. Moretti?” Luca whispered, pulling her against his chest, his arms wrapping securely around her waist.
Claire rested her head against his shoulder, listening to the steady, comforting beat of his heart—the heart that had become her truest sanctuary. She looked out at the vast, beautiful horizon, knowing that whatever the future held, they would face it together, bound by a love that had triumphed over the deepest darkness.

“I am perfectly happy, Luca,” Claire whispered, a brilliant, beautiful smile illuminating her face. “The cage is gone. We’re finally free.”
Behind them, little Leo ran down the sand, his laughter mixing with the sound of the ocean, a bright, beautiful herald of the long, happy generations to come.
