Chapter 9 - A New Beginning

Six months later, the September sun shone bright and golden over the rolling hills of the historic estate Julian had purchased in the coastal town of Manchester-by-the-Sea.

The manicured lawns were covered in white silk tents, glowing fairy lights, and masses of fresh white roses and hydrangeas. It was the day of Julian and Rebecca’s wedding.

The event was private—attended only by close friends, Julian's trusted executives, and the diner friends who had supported Rebecca during her hardest years.

Inside the estate's grand dressing room, Rebecca stood before a full-length mirror, looking luminous in an off-the-shoulder lace gown. Her hair was styled in soft waves, and her skin glowed with health and peace. Gone were the tired shadows under her eyes; in their place was the radiant light of a woman who was deeply loved and cherished.

A soft knock sounded at the door, and Ava and Norah bounced into the room. They wore matching miniature versions of Rebecca’s dress, with rose-petal baskets hanging from their wrists and tiny silver tiaras resting on their neatly braided hair.

"Mommy! You look like a real princess!" Ava gasped, clapping her hands.

"Mr. Julian is waiting outside!" Norah added excitedly. "He has a fancy black tie!"

Rebecca knelt down, gathering both of her daughters into a soft hug. "Are you girls ready to give Mommy away?"

"We're giving Daddy to you, too!" Ava giggled.

Outside, beside a grand marble altar overlooking the sparkling blue Atlantic Ocean, Julian stood waiting. He wore a sharp black tuxedo, looking more handsome than ever. Beside him stood Arthur Vance, serving as his best man.

As the string quartet began to play a soft, beautiful rendition of "Canon in D," the guests stood up.

Down the long carpeted aisle walked Ava and Norah, scattering white rose petals with wild enthusiasm and broad, gap-toothed smiles.

And then came Rebecca.

Julian’s breath caught in his throat. He watched the woman he loved walk toward him, her eyes locked onto his, carrying all the grace, strength, and beauty that had captured his heart from the moment he met her in that greasy diner.

When she reached the altar, Julian took her hand, kissing her knuckles gently.

"You are breathtaking," he whispered.

"You aren't so bad yourself, Mr. Carter," she whispered back, her eyes sparkling.

The minister spoke warm, solemn words about resilience, love, and the mysterious ways fate brings souls together. But the most meaningful moment came when it was time for the vows.

Julian turned not only to Rebecca, but also knelt down to face Ava and Norah, who were standing right beside their mother.

From his pocket, Julian pulled out two small velvet boxes. Inside each was a delicate gold necklace with a pendant shaped like a small house, illuminated by a tiny diamond in the window.

"Ava, Norah," Julian said softly, his voice trembling with emotion as he placed the necklaces around their necks. "On a cold December day, you asked a stranger on a school step to be your father. You gave me the greatest gift anyone has ever given me—a family. I promise to protect you, to listen to you, to help you build your dreams, and to love you every single day for the rest of my life. You will always be my daughters."

Ava wiped a small tear from her eye, then leaned forward and kissed Julian's cheek. "We love you, Daddy."

"I love you more than all the glitter in the world," Norah added, hugging his neck tightly.

Julian stood up, looked into Rebecca’s tear-filled eyes, and slid the wedding band onto her finger.

"With this ring, and with all that I am, I give you my heart forever," Julian said.

"And I give you mine," Rebecca replied, placing her ring on his finger.

May you like

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife, and this family united forever," the minister declared. "Julian, you may kiss your bride."

Julian pulled Rebecca close, dipping her slightly as he kissed her passion and deep devotion, while the guests erupted into joyful applause and the twins cheered loudly, throwing rose petals into the air.
