Chapter 10 - A Life Written in Light

Six months later, the great bell of St. Jude’s Cathedral rang out across the city, its deep, golden chimes announcing a new day and a new beginning.
The cathedral was filled with flowers—white lilies, cream roses, and soft greenery stretching from the high arched entrance to the magnificent altar. It was not a syndicate gathering, nor was it a cold corporate arrangement like the one that had almost bound Dante to Valeria St. Clair.
It was a true celebration of love, redemption, and family.
Dante stood at the altar dressed in a tailored black tuxedo. Beside him stood Marcus, serving as his best man, looking exceptionally sharp and unusually emotional, though he tried valiantly to maintain his stern security posture.
The grand organ swelled into a triumphant, breathtaking melody.
The heavy double doors of the cathedral opened wide, framed by bright, golden afternoon sunlight.
Walking down the aisle first was Lily, wearing a delicate white lace flower-girl dress with a crown of small daisies in her hair. She scattered rose petals with focused determination, smiling proudly at the guests lined along the pews.
And then came Clara.
She was breathtaking. Her wedding gown was a masterpiece of soft silk and delicate ivory lace, flowing around her like morning mist. Her dark hair was pinned up gracefully, exposing her elegant neck, and her veil trailed softly behind her. But it was her face that captured everyone’s breath—her cheeks flushed with happiness, her brown eyes shining with undeniable love as she walked toward the man who had changed her world.
Dante felt his breath catch in his throat. The cold, ruthless man he had spent thirty years building faded away completely, leaving only a man deeply, unreservedly in love.
When Clara reached the altar, Dante stepped forward and took her hand. Her fingers were warm, steady, and perfectly entwined with his.
The priest spoke ancient, solemn words of blessing, but for Dante and Clara, their vows were spoken in the quiet looks they exchanged—the unspoken promises forged through shared tragedy, courage, and unconditional trust.
“I give you my past, my present, and my future,” Dante spoke, his voice deep and echoing with absolute conviction as he placed a brilliant diamond ring upon her finger. “I promise to protect you, to honor you, and to build a life filled with light for you and our daughter.”
Clara placed a matching gold band on his finger, tears of pure joy glistening on her lashes. “I give you my heart, my faith, and my life, Dante. I promise to stand by you, to heal you when you hurt, and to love you until my final breath.”
“By the power vested in me,” the priest pronounced with a warm smile, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. What God has joined, let no man put asunder. You may kiss the bride.”
Dante didn't hesitate. He pulled Clara gently into his arms and lifted her slightly, pressing his lips to hers in a passionate, beautiful kiss that echoed throughout the vast cathedral. The guests erupted into joyous applause, led enthusiastically by Lily, who clapped her small hands with delight.
Late that night, back at the Moretti estate, the grand reception had drawn to a peaceful close.
The estate was quiet now. The warm summer night breeze blew through the open French doors of the master balcony, bringing with it the sweet scent of night-blooming jasmine from the gardens below.
Lily was fast asleep in her soft, large bed upstairs, her plush rabbit resting securely on her chest, her small face completely at peace.
Out on the balcony, Clara stood wearing a soft silk robe, leaning against the marble railing, looking out over the sparkling lights of the city below.
Dante stepped out behind her, wrapping his long arms around her waist and pulling her back against his broad chest. He rested his chin gently on her shoulder, taking in her warmth and scent.
“What are you thinking about, Mrs. Moretti?” Dante whispered softly into her hair.
Clara smiled, placing her hands over his on her waist.
“I was thinking about that rainy morning in June,” Clara said softly, looking up at the stars. “I was so scared, Dante. I had seventy dollars in my bank account, my child was sick, my career was destroyed, and I thought I had reached the absolute end of my life.”
Dante kissed the side of her neck tenderly. “And now?”
Clara turned in his arms, wrapping her hands around his neck, looking into the deep, dark eyes of the man who had become her shelter, her partner, and her husband.
“And now,” Clara whispered softly, a radiant, beautiful smile spreading across her face, “I know that sometimes the darkest storms only come to sweep away the old walls, so we can build a home that lasts forever.”

Dante smiled—a warm, true, breathtaking smile—and pulled his wife into a tight, loving embrace beneath the quiet, starlit sky.
The secret in the archives had been revealed, the shadows of the past were gone, and in their place, a family had been born—strong, unbroken, and forever whole.
