Chapter 9 - Building a Legacy

Back home, our lives continued with renewed purpose. We broke ground on a new office space for NovaByte Solutions, expanding our team and creating mentorship programs specifically aimed at supporting young adults aging out of the foster care system and youth without family safety nets.
I knew firsthand what it felt like to have the rug pulled out from under you at fifteen, to have to figure out the world with empty pockets and a broken heart. If my success could be used as a bridge for others facing similar hardships, then every struggle I had endured suddenly made sense.
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony for our new corporate headquarters, Marcus invited me to the podium to say a few words to our team, investors, and community partners.
I stood at the microphone, looking out over a room filled with brilliant, passionate people—and in the front row, David and Noah, waving proudly with a small homemade banner that read: BEST MOM EVER.
“People often ask me what drove the success of NovaByte,” I spoke into the microphone, my voice clear and steady. “They ask about the code, the market strategy, the venture capital. But the real foundation of everything we do here isn't tech. It’s resilience. It’s the understanding that no matter how abruptly someone tries to write you out of their story, you always have the power to pick up the pen and write a completely different ending.”

Applause filled the room, warm and thunderous, washing over me like a wave of validation.
I looked down at Noah, who was clapping ecstatically, and smiled.
