Chapter 10 - The Unshakable Horizon

The sun dipped low over the horizon, painting the evening sky in brilliant shades of amber, violet, and deep gold. The golden rays caught the suspension bridge in the distance, making its steel cables gleam like threads of pure light against the twilight.
We stood together on the back patio—Amy, Frederick, and I—watching the stars begin to emerge one by one in the clear autumn sky.
Frederick ran across the grass to catch a firefly, his joyful giggles echoing in the quiet evening air. Amy leaned her head gently against my shoulder, her hand sliding safely and comfortably into mine.
“Penny for your thoughts, engineer,” she whispered with a soft smile.
I looked down at her, then out across the peaceful yard, the secure home, and the brilliant horizon stretching out before us.

“I was just thinking about foundations,” I said, kissing her forehead. “Some structures take time, patience, and a lot of heavy lifting to build. But once they’re standing on truth and love, they last forever.”
We watched our son chase another firefly into the warm evening glow, knowing deep in our hearts that our future was completely secure, beautifully bright, and safe for all time.
