Chapter 7 - The Sister’s Betrayal

When cornered, rats will always turn on each other.
Gwendolyn stood up, her chair scraping violently against the floor. "This was his idea!" she shrieked, pointing a trembling finger at Ross. "Ross needed the money! He owed people from his failed crypto investments! He told me if I helped him frame Corinne, he would give me half the money and let me live in the house!"
"Shut up, Gwen!" Ross screamed, slamming his hands on the table. "You're the one who bruised Casey's arm! You're the one who forged the digital signatures!"
Corinne sat silently beside Rachel, watching the two people who had tried to destroy her life tear each other to pieces. The sense of betrayal from her half-sister was deep, but watching Gwendolyn confess to everything on the record brought a cold, necessary closure.
The deposition was immediately halted. Ross’s attorney, realizing his clients had just confessed to multiple federal felonies on a recorded transcript, packed his briefcase.

"I am withdrawing as your counsel," he told Ross coldly. "You lied to me, and you're going to prison."
Rachel forwarded the video footage to the local district attorney for child abuse and domestic violence charges, and the financial logs to the FBI for federal wire fraud.
