Chapter 6 - The Boardroom Coup

Friday morning arrived. The boardroom on the 50th floor was spectacular, offering a panoramic view of the city. The long mahogany table was surrounded by the fifteen board members, the legal team, and the lead underwriters.

Arthur sat at the head of the table, radiating absolute control. Vanessa and Mark sat along the side, having been given honorary board seats they did not earn. I sat at the foot of the table, flanked by the corporate legal advisors.

"Welcome, everyone," Arthur began, leaning forward. "Today, we vote to ratify the initial public offering price of forty-two dollars per share. This will value Harrison Group at four billion dollars."

"Before we take that vote," a voice rang out from the end of the table.

Arthur frowned. "Julian? You're not on the executive committee. Your presence today is merely a courtesy."

Julian Vance stood up, adjusting his suit jacket. "I am a major shareholder, Arthur. And under Section 4 of the corporate bylaws, I am calling for an emergency resolution to remove you as Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately."

The room fell into a stunned silence.

Arthur burst out laughing. "On what grounds, Julian? You're losing your mind. The company is at its peak financial health."

"Is it?" Julian looked down at me. "Ms. Harrison, would you care to present the updated financial audit?"

Mark jumped up. "What is this joke? Clara, shut this down!"

I stood up, opening my laptop. The projector screen behind Arthur flickered to life. Instead of the polished marketing slides for the IPO, a series of red-lined bank ledgers appeared.

"Over the last seventy-two hours, a forensic audit has revealed that the Harrison Group has a structural deficit of two hundred and fifty million dollars," I announced, my voice echoing clearly through the microphone. "Furthermore, the two-million-dollar wire authorized by Mark Harrison yesterday was flagged as unauthorized corporate embezzlement."

"What?!" Arthur roared, turning to look at the screen. "Clara, what did you do?"

"I didn't do anything, Dad. I just stopped hiding your crimes," I said calmly. "The SEC has already issued a freeze order on the IPO. And because of the personal liability riders attached to the recent credit lines, the banks have already initiated foreclosure protocols on all guarantor assets."

Vanessa stood up, her face pale. "What does that mean? What does that mean for my estate?"

"It means you're broke, Vanessa," I said, looking her dead in the eye. "Every single one of you."
