Chapter 8 - The Trial of Meredith and Chloe Vance

The trial of Meredith and Chloe Vance took place in the spring of 2027.
It was a highly publicized media event in Columbus. The wealthy socialite who poured scalding soup on her own granddaughter made national headlines. But no matter how many expensive lawyers Meredith’s remaining friends tried to hire for her, the evidence was absolute.
The prosecution’s case was anchored by three key pillars:
The Security Footage: The undeniable, high-definition video showing Meredith’s deliberate actions and Chloe’s fabricated lies.
The Medical Testimony: Photos of Lily’s painful, blistering burns and the pediatric burn specialist's testimony regarding the severity of the scalding.
The Financial Fraud: Detailed records of the forged loan documents, proving the premeditated criminal intent of both defendants.
I stood on the witness stand, looking directly at my mother and sister. They were dressed in drab, orange county jail jumpsuits, their hair unkempt, their polished veneer completely stripped away.
"For years, I believed I was the problem," I testified, my voice strong, echoing through the courtroom. "I believed that if I just worked harder, paid more, and endured more abuse, they would love me. But love doesn't demand your destruction. What they did to my daughter was the ultimate expression of their greed and cruelty. They do not deserve the title of family."
When the jury returned after only two hours of deliberation, the verdicts were unanimous.

As the judge handed down the sentences, Meredith began to scream, cursing the court, her lawyers, and finally, me. Chloe simply slumped in her chair, weeping silently as the bailiffs led them away to begin serving their prison terms.
