Chapter 9 - The Final Inheritance Puzzle
Arthur leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, his expression turning serious.
“Evelyn has been telling everyone for years that she gave up her entire inheritance from our late father to support Lucas and Kimberly,” Arthur began, tapping the manila folder. “She loved playing the ultimate martyr, claiming she sacrificed her own comfort so her children could have a future.”
Lucas frowned. “She told me that all the time. She said the house she used to live in was sold to pay for my college tuition.”
“She lied,” Arthur stated flatly. “The house was sold, yes, but the proceeds were never spent on your tuition, Lucas. Your college was paid for by the scholarship you earned and the part-time jobs you worked. Evelyn pocketed every single penny of that inheritance—roughly four hundred thousand dollars—and hid it in a secret offshore account to fund Kimberly’s endless bad business ventures and lifestyle.”
My eyes widened. “Four hundred thousand dollars? And she let Lucas struggle through his early twenties thinking they were broke?”
“Worse than that,” Arthur continued, opening the folder to reveal bank statements and certified wills. “Our father’s will explicitly stated that half of his estate was meant to be held in a trust specifically for Lucas’s future property acquisition. Evelyn forged signatures, cut Lucas out of the legal distribution, and kept the entire sum for herself and Kimberly.”
Lucas stared at the documents, his face pale. The betrayal by his own mother, who had preached about family honor and sacrifice while secretly robbing him blind, was a bitter pill to swallow.

“Why are you telling us this now, Uncle Arthur?” Lucas asked, his voice tight with suppressed anger.
“Because Evelyn is currently trying to sue me and a few other relatives over a separate piece of land up north, claiming she needs the money to support her ‘homeless daughter and displaced grandchildren,’” Arthur explained with a grim smile. “Her greed is her own undoing.
