Chapter 10 - The Golden Horizon

It was a warm Sunday evening in late August, just as the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in breathtaking strokes of amber, violet, and deep golden orange.
We had packed a wicker picnic basket and walked down to the community park near our house, spreading out a large plaid blanket on the cool, lush grass beneath the sprawling branches of an ancient oak tree.
Sofía and Mateo were chasing each other across the open field, their laughter carrying on the gentle evening breeze. Sofía’s long dark hair flowed behind her like a silken banner, while Mateo’s golden curls shimmered brilliantly in the dying sunlight, bouncing with every joyful stride.
Daniel sat beside me on the blanket, wrapping his arm comfortably around my shoulders. I leaned my head against his chest, listening to the steady, reassuring beat of his heart.
"Penny for your thoughts, gorgeous," Daniel whispered softly, pressing a tender kiss into my hair.
I smiled, watching our children run toward the horizon, their small silhouettes framed against the fading brilliance of the sunset.
"I was just thinking about how far we've come," I murmured, watching Mateo stop to pick a yellow dandelion and hand it proudly to his sister, who accepted it with a radiant, gap-toothed grin. "I was thinking about how everything we thought was broken turned out to be the exact thing that made us stronger."
Daniel tightened his grip around my shoulders, his eyes shining with quiet emotion. "We did it, Valeria. We protected our family. And no one will ever take our peace away again."

"No one," I agreed firmly.
As the first evening stars began to twinkle in the vast, velvet-blue sky above, a profound sense of peace washed over my soul. The storm had passed, the shadows had vanished, and our family stood together under the warm, golden light of a truly happy ending—ready for all the beautiful tomorrows waiting on the horizon
