Chapter 7 - Reclaiming the Future

Six months later, Ellen Vance was completely unrecognizable from the dying woman on the couch. Clad in an elegant emerald green business suit, her hair thick and glowing, she stood at the podium of the Vance Conglomerate headquarters.
Beside her stood Arthur, looking incredibly proud, and Caleb, who was adjusting a small bowtie.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the press," Arthur announced into the microphones. "Today marks a significant milestone. I am officially stepping down as the Active Chief Executive Officer of Vance Conglomerate. I am handing the reins over to someone who possesses the ultimate resilience, intellect, and heart to lead this company into the next generation. My daughter, Ellen Vance."
The room erupted into thundering applause. Ellen stepped up, her voice clear, confident, and powerful.
"Thank you," Ellen said, smiling. "For a long time, I was forced into silence. I was made to believe I was weak, helpless, and disposable. But survival is not just about staying alive; it’s about reclaiming your power. Vance Conglomerate will now pivot its focus, investing fifty percent of its venture capital into creating the Caleb Foundation—a national initiative dedicated to providing free legal protection and medical support to victims of domestic and financial abuse."
As the cameras flashed, Ellen looked into the audience. She knew that across town, in a cold, stark prison cell, Andrew was serving a twenty-five-year sentence with hard labor. His mistress, Cynthia, had been apprehended trying to flee the country and was now facing charges as an accessory to grand larceny. They were completely erased from their lives, relics of a dark past.
After the press conference, the family retired to Arthur’s penthouse office.
"You did magnificent, Ellen," Arthur said, pouring two glasses of sparkling cider for them and a glass of apple juice for Caleb. "Your mother would be so incredibly proud of you."
"I couldn't have done it without my co-captain," Ellen said, looking down at Caleb. "He was the one who kept me anchored when everything was drifting away."

Caleb raised his glass. "To the Vance family. We never give up."
"We never give up," Arthur and Ellen echoed, their glasses clinking in perfect harmony.
