Chapter 10 - A Horizon of Eternal Light
The story comes full circle at the Cape Arago lighthouse.
It was a beautiful summer evening. Arthur Vance had passed away peacefully in his sleep a year prior, leaving behind a legacy of love, honor, and an unbreakable family bond. In accordance with his wishes, the family had gathered at the lighthouse to celebrate his beautiful, full life.
Ellen, now a graceful matriarch, stood at the top observation deck of the lighthouse, looking out at the vast, golden ocean. Caleb, a fully accomplished man, walked up beside her, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder.
"He’s still here, Mom," Caleb said softly, looking at the horizon. "In every wave, in the light, in everything we do."
"I know," Ellen smiled, leaning her head against her son’s shoulder. "He gave us our lives back, Caleb. And you... you gave me the courage to fight."
Down below on the pristine beach, a young woman and a little boy—Caleb’s beautiful wife and their five-year-old son, Arthur—were building a magnificent sandcastle. The little boy looked up, waving enthusiastically at his mother and father up in the lighthouse.
Caleb waved back, a brilliant, happy smile illuminating his face.
The dark apartment, the cruel words of an abusive father, the terror of abandonment—all of it was nothing but a distant whisper, completely swallowed by the vast, beautiful ocean of their success and happiness. They had survived the worst of storms, and now, they stood on the shore of a beautiful, eternal dawn.
