Chapter 5 - The Unraveling

"What... what is this?" Julian whispered, his voice trembling so violently that the papers fluttered between his fingers like autumn leaves.

"Read page four, Julian," I instructed calmly, folding my hands neatly in front of me. "Specifically the section highlighted in bright yellow. It outlines the forensic audit of Sterling Innovations' core intellectual property."

Julian’s eyes darted down the page. The silence in the grand marquee was so absolute you could hear the distant crash of the ocean waves outside.

"The... the patents," Julian stammered, staring up at me with sheer horror in his eyes. "The core algorithms... they're not registered to me? They're registered to the Montgomery Trust? But—that's impossible! I incorporated the company!"

"You incorporated the shell, Julian," I corrected gently, stepping a little closer so only he and the front rows could hear every word. "My father filed the foundational cybernetics patents six years before you even learned how to write a line of scalable code. You were permitted to use them under a revocable familial license—a license that required marital fidelity, financial transparency, and good standing. As of two minutes ago, that license has been permanently revoked."

Julian let out a choked sound, clutching his chest as if he had just been physically struck. "Revoked? If you revoke the patents, the company has no valuation! The investors—the Series B funding—it'll all collapse overnight!"

"It already has," I replied with a sweet, lethal smile. "Your accounts were frozen by Montgomery & Pierce at nine o'clock this morning. Every asset you claimed as your own—the penthouse, the Hamptons beach house, the corporate shares—belongs to the estate. You are currently, legally, and financially bankrupt."

Victoria leaped out of her seat, her face purple with rage. "You lying, conniving little witch! You planned this! You trapped my son!"

"Your son trapped himself, Victoria," I said, turning my gaze to her with icy detachment. "He wanted a son so badly. He just didn't check the family medical history closely enough."

I turned back to Julian, whose face was now the color of wet chalk.

"Flip to the back page, Julian," I whispered. "The medical document from our fertility clinic."

Julian’s shaking hand flipped the final page of the packet. His eyes scanned the text: a certified, stamped medical record detailing a permanent vasectomy performed fourteen months prior—long before Chloe’s pregnancy began.

Julian slowly raised his head, his gaze shifting with agonizing slowness from the paper in his hand to the woman standing beside him in the white lace gown.

"Chloe," Julian breathed, his voice hollow and broken. "What... what is this?"

Chloe’s expression fractured instantly. The confident, smug socialite facade dissolved into absolute panic. "Julian, don't listen to her! It's a forged document! She's lying to destroy us—she's insane!"

"The clinic director is my uncle's classmate, Chloe," I interjected smoothly, looking her dead in the eye. "Every signature is notarized. Every medical code is authentic. Unless Julian underwent a miraculous, biblically unprecedented biological event while fast asleep, that child you're carrying cannot possibly be his."

The crowd erupted into absolute chaos. Gasps, shouts, and frantic camera shutters filled the marquee. Several venture capitalists in the front row stood up so fast their chairs knocked over backward onto the grass.

Chloe shrieked, turning on Julian with pure venom. "Fine! You want the truth? You pathetic, broke little nobody! You thought you were a tech king, but you were just a stepping stone! You didn't have any money of your own—your wife's family funded everything! Do you think I would ever have looked twice at an ungrateful, arrogant jerk like you if you hadn't pretended to be a billionaire?"

May you like

Julian stood frozen, staring at the woman he had abandoned his wife and newborn daughter for, as she openly confessed to using him for social status and financial survival.

Victoria clutched her head and collapsed backward into her seat, letting out a dramatic, high-pitched wail as the reality of their total social and financial ruin crashed down upon them.
