Chapter 10 - The Horizon

The sun began to dip below the western tree line, casting long, golden ribbons across the Greenwich estate and turning the sky into a breathtaking canvas of amber, violet, and rose.

Inside the house, the grand piano sat silent, but the warmth of a life fully reclaimed radiated from every room. There were no ghosts here anymore. The shadows of my past marriage had been completely washed away by time, purpose, and maternal devotion.

Lily sat beside me on the porch swing, resting her head against my shoulder as we watched the evening fireflies begin to dance across the lawn.

"Mom?" she asked softly, her voice carrying the sleepy cadence of a day well-spent.

"Yes, my love?"

"Can we build another rocket ship tomorrow? The big one with the flashing lights?"

I smiled, wrapping my arm securely around her small shoulders and pulling her closer to my heart.

"We can build anything you want, Lily," I whispered, looking out toward the endless, star-filled horizon that stretched out before us. "Anything at all."

It was simply a promise
