Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

“How touching,” a voice echoed from the top of the stairs.

Standing on the landing above us was Rachel Collins, holding a small silver pistol, flanked by four heavily armed security guards with assault rifles pointed straight at our chest.

Agent Vance immediately drew his weapon, placing himself between Rachel’s men and us. “FBI! Drop your weapons!”

Rachel laughed, a cold, melodramatic sound that echoed against the concrete walls. “FBI? Agent Vance, isn't it? You’re way out of your jurisdiction without a signed warrant. And unfortunately for you, nobody knows you’re on this property.”

“The warrant is being processed as we speak,” Vance countered calmly, his voice steady. “A dozen federal vehicles are converging on this location right now. Drop the weapon, Rachel Collins. It’s over.”

At the mention of her real name, Rachel’s eyes narrowed into slits of pure venom. The polished facade of Victoria Sterling shattered completely.

“Rachel Collins died in a trailer park fifteen years ago!” she snarled, her knuckles turning white on the gun. “I built this empire! I earned every dollar of the Sterling wealth! This foolish man,” she gestured wildly at Harrison, “thought he could play social climber with me. He thought he was smart. But he was just an asset.”

She stepped down two stairs, her gun locked onto me. “And you, Sarah. The dutiful little ex-wife. You were supposed to ignore that dirty toy. You were supposed to stay in your miserable little apartment and fade away.”

“I came for the father of my daughter,” I said, standing tall, stepping in front of Harrison. “You took three years of his life, but you won't take another second.”

“Kill them,” Rachel commanded her men coldly. “Dump the bodies in the lake. We pack up and fly to Dubai in an hour.”
