Chapter 10 - A New Dawn for Winston

One year after the trial, the air was warm and smelled of pine and fresh grass.
I walked up the grassy hill of the cemetery, carrying a small bouquet of fresh daisies—Emma’s favorite.
The headstone was beautiful, carved from white marble, featuring a small engraving of a little girl holding a teddy bear.
I knelt down, brushing a stray leaf off the stone.
"Hey, baby girl," I said softly, my voice filled not with tears, but with a deep, quiet peace. "We did it. Everyone knows the truth. No one can ever hurt another kid the way they hurt you. Sarah is running the foundation now. We've already helped three families get the real treatment they needed."
I reached into my bag and pulled out Winston.
I had carefully sewn his side back up, using a bright blue thread so the patch was visible—a badge of honor. He didn't carry a recorder anymore. He was just a bear again.
I placed Winston gently at the base of the headstone, propping him up against the marble.
"You can rest now, Winston," I whispered. "Your job is done. Keep her company for me."
A gentle breeze swept through the cemetery, rustling the leaves of the nearby oak trees. It felt like a warm hand brushing against my cheek, soft and light, like a little girl's touch.
