Chapter 10 - The Sanctuary of Light

On a warm summer evening, the sun painted the sky in brilliant shades of gold and violet.

I sat on the back deck of our sprawling estate, watching Lyra run through the green grass. She was laughing, chasing a golden retriever puppy we had adopted a month ago. Her chest rose and fell in deep, healthy, effortless breaths.

She looked radiant, happy, and completely safe.

Eleanor Sterling walked out onto the deck, holding two glasses of lemonade. Over the past few months, our professional relationship had blossomed into a deep, genuine connection. She had become a steady, loving presence in both my life and Lyra’s.

"She looks beautiful out there," Eleanor said softly, handing me a glass and leaning her head against my shoulder.

"She does," I whispered, wrapping my arm around her waist. "She's finally getting the childhood she deserves."

Lyra noticed us looking and waved frantically, her smile bright enough to light up the night. "Daddy! Look! Daisy found a butterfly!"

"That's amazing, sweetie!" I called back, my heart swelling with a warmth I had once thought I would never feel again.

I looked up at the sky, feeling a profound sense of peace. I had walked through the deepest, darkest valley, carrying nothing but my love for my daughter. And now, we had built a sanctuary of light that no one could ever take away from us.

We were home.
