Chapter 9 - Healing Old Wounds

The silence that returned to the house was different this time. It wasn't the heavy, suffocating silence of grief, but the quiet, clean air after a massive storm.

Javier walked over to Patricia. He knelt down on the floor next to her, completely ignoring the dust, and gently placed his hand on her shoulder.

"Patricia. I am so, so sorry," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "I let my family's madness invade your life. I let her hurt you."

Patricia looked up, her eyes red and swollen, but the terror was gone, replaced by a deep, profound relief. "You... you believed me, Mr. Javier. You didn't doubt me."

"I knew the moment I looked at you," Javier said softly. "A person who can make children laugh the way you do doesn't have room in her heart for theft. You brought life back to this house, Patricia. You saved my sons. And today, you saved me from making the biggest mistake of my life."

He helped her up from the floor, guiding her to a chair.

"I want to offer you a new contract," Javier said, looking her in the eyes. "No more maid duties. I will hire a full cleaning service for the house. I want you to be the official guardian and coordinator of my children's lives. You will manage their schedules, their play, and their happiness. And you will be compensated as an executive. Because what you do here is more valuable than any corporate deal I have ever signed."

Patricia stared at him, fresh tears spilling over her eyelashes, but this time, they were tears of joy. "I... I don't know what to say, Mr. Javier. I love the boys. I would do it for nothing."

"You won't do it for nothing," Javier smiled, wiping a tear from her cheek with his thumb. The gesture was tender, lingering just a second longer than professional courtesy required. "We are going to make this house a home again. Together."
