Chapter 2 - The Ghost of the Amalfi Coast

The Lamborghini tore through the rain-slicked highway connecting Venice to the rugged coastline of the south, its engine roaring like a caged beast. I didn't care about speed limits, highway tolls, or the whispered threats of the syndicate council. My mind was fixed on one image: a little girl stacking brass shell casings on a study floor, looking at me with absolute trust.
Salvo had been like a brother to me—or so I thought. He was the man I left in charge of the Amalfi estate whenever business pulled me away. He managed the staff, handled the low-level ledgers, and supposedly guarded the house like his own. But greed is a poison that rots even the strongest foundations.
My phone vibrated against the leather console. It was Matteo.
"Speak," I commanded, keeping my eyes fixed on the winding tarmac ahead.
"Nico, you were right," Matteo’s voice came through the car speakers, tight and breathless. "I bypassed the household security logs and accessed the master server. Salvo thought he wiped it, but he didn't know the secondary backup runs on an isolated local loop."
"What did you find?"
"It wasn't Elena. The footage shows Salvo himself unlocking the vault at two in the morning three nights ago. He took the Serafina necklace, dropped a pair of Elena's earrings near the latch to frame her, and then orchestrated the whole confrontation today while you were locked in negotiations in Venice."
My grip on the steering wheel tightened until my knuckles turned white. The Serafina necklace wasn't just a piece of jewelry; it was a relic of my family's founding, worth a fortune, yes, but more importantly, it was a symbol of trust.
"Where is Salvo now?" I asked, my voice dangerously calm.
"He's still at the Amalfi estate, hosting a small card game with a few mid-level capos. He thinks he’s safe, celebrating the fact that you're tied up in Venice and the $200 million contract is yours."
"Keep him there," I said. "Do not let him leave. I'm fifty miles out."

"And Elena and Nora?" Matteo asked.
"I'm handling them first."
