Part 2: Blood Hidden Behind Diamonds

Adrian's question echoed through the marble kitchen.
"What did you do?"
No one answered.
Even Everett, who usually hid behind arrogance, took one step backward.
Meredith slowly lowered the photograph.
"You don't understand," she whispered.
Adrian walked toward her until only a few inches separated them.
"Explain it."
Claire remained against the kitchen island, one hand covering her burning cheek. She wanted to leave, but her legs refused to move.
Meredith forced a smile.
"Victor had... mistakes before he married me."
Claire looked up.
"Mistakes?"
"My mother wasn't a mistake."
Meredith's expression hardened.
"Your mother was a waitress who thought she could trap a wealthy man."
Claire pulled another envelope from her purse.
"I expected you to say that."
She placed it on the counter.
Inside were dozens of old letters.
Every one of them was written by Victor Voss.
The first letter was dated twenty-four years earlier.
To my little Claire,
If anything happens to me, remember that none of this is your fault. You are my daughter, and I love you just as much as Adrian.
Adrian read every line without speaking.
There were birthday cards that had never been delivered.
Canceled checks addressed to Claire's mother.
A copy of a trust fund agreement.
And finally, one handwritten confession.
Meredith threatened to destroy Claire and her mother if I acknowledged them publicly. I am hiding these documents with my lawyer until Claire is old enough to protect herself.
Silence filled the room.
Everett grabbed the papers.
"They're fake!"
"They aren't."
A new voice came from the entrance.
An elderly man walked into the penthouse carrying a leather briefcase.
"Nathan Cole," Adrian whispered.
His father's personal attorney.
Nathan opened the briefcase and placed official records on the table.
DNA reports.
Birth certificates.
Bank documents.
Every page confirmed the same truth.
Claire Whitaker was Victor Voss's biological daughter.
She wasn't an intruder.
She was family.
Meredith suddenly screamed.
"He promised everything would belong to Everett!"
Nathan looked directly at Adrian.
"Your father changed his will six months before his death."
He slid the final document across the counter.
Victor had divided his estate equally between Adrian and Claire.
Everett inherited nothing except a fixed trust.
Adrian slowly looked toward Meredith.
"So the information leaks..."
Nathan nodded.
"I've been investigating quietly."
Adrian turned to Nolan.
"Bring every security file."
Within minutes, hidden recordings filled the television.
There was Meredith meeting unknown men.
Everett exchanging cash for confidential documents.
Warehouse maps being photographed.
Bank accounts receiving millions.
The traitor had never been the maid.
The traitors had been living inside the family.
Everett lunged toward the television.
"You set us up!"
Adrian caught him by the collar and threw him onto the floor.
"You framed an innocent woman."
Meredith suddenly dropped to her knees.
"You can't hand us over."
Adrian looked at Claire.
For the first time since entering the room, she spoke calmly.
"I didn't come for money."
Everyone stared.
"I came because my mother is dying."
She reached into her purse and unfolded another paper.
It was a letter written by Victor.
If Adrian ever learns the truth, tell him I trusted him to protect you.
Claire looked at Adrian.
"I only wanted to give this to you before she passed away."
Adrian stared at the letter for a long moment.
May you like
Then he quietly said,
"You should have come through the front door."
