Part 6: The Sound of Glass Breaking

The small speaker on the attorney's briefcase clicked on.
For three seconds, the grand foyer was dead silent. Then, the crisp, unmistakable sound of Claudia’s voice filled the high-ceilinged hall—shrill, venomous, and laced with vicious cruelty.
“You stupid, clumsy little brat! Look what you’ve done!”
Followed by the sharp, terrifying crack of a hand striking flesh, the terrified wails of six-year-old Ava, and the small, trembling whimpers of four-year-old Eli. Then, Elena’s steady, protective voice stepping into the breach to take the blow meant for the child.
Claudia staggered backward, her hand flying to her mouth, her eyes wide with absolute horror. The audio looped and played again, echoing off the marble floors and stone pillars of the foyer, turning her pristine, polished world into a glass cage of exposure.
"No... no, that's—that's out of context," Claudia gasped, her voice trembling violently as she clutched the wooden banister for support. "The children were misbehaving! They wouldn't listen! Every mother loses her temper sometimes, Ronan—you don't understand how difficult it is running this house alone while you're off playing warlord—"
"You never ran this house, Claudia," Ronan interrupted, his voice dropping into a register so cold and devoid of human warmth that it felt like freezing water poured over her skin. "You occupied it. You traded your name for a lifestyle, and when the reality of motherhood required patience, you chose tyranny."
He stepped closer, towering over her.
"You raised your hand against my blood," Ronan continued, his dark eyes narrowing into dangerous slits. "You terrorized my children inside the home I provided. And worst of all, you expected me to remain blind because you thought my empire made me a distracted father."
The attorney stepped forward, flipping open the thick black leather briefcase and pulling out a stack of heavy, legal documents bound with black ribbon.
"Mrs. Voss," the attorney said, his voice entirely clinical and devoid of emotion. "This is a petition for immediate, emergency dissolution of marriage and full, permanent sole custody of Ava and Eli Voss, filed under seal in the High Court twenty minutes ago. Furthermore, pursuant to the prenuptial agreement clause twelve—pertaining to emotional abuse, child endangerment, and breach of household conduct—your financial access, trusts, and properties are frozen effective immediately."
Claudia stared at the papers as if they were venomous snakes. Her legs buckled slightly, and she slid down the wooden banister until she was kneeling on the cold marble floor, her designer blouse rumpled, her perfect bun coming undone.
"You can't do this," Claudia sobbed, tears finally breaking free, streaming down her face as she looked up at Ronan with desperate, frantic eyes. "The press! The society columns! A public divorce like this will destroy your reputation, Ronan! It will ruin your standing!"
Ronan looked down at her with absolute indifference.
"My reputation was built on blood, concrete, and absolute control, Claudia," Ronan said quietly. "A divorce courtroom is a sandbox compared to the enemies I’ve buried. Do you really think I care what the society columnists write when my children were cowering behind a housemaid?"
He turned his back on her without another word.
"Fenwick, have her packed and escorted off the property before nightfall," Ronan ordered over his shoulder as he began walking toward the stairs. "If she attempts to contact the children or contest the filing outside of legal channels, ensure she understands the consequences."
"Understood, boss," Fenwick replied, stepping forward with two security guards flanking him.

As Ronan walked up the grand staircase toward the second floor, the weight of the past six months seemed to lift from his shoulders, replaced by a cold, resolute clarity. The house was no longer a silent fortress of ghosts and tyrants.
It was time to rebuild.
