Years later, the Rose Medical Center stood proudly as one of the most innovative and compassionate healthcare institutions in the country.
Unlike the cold, exclusive glass mansions of the past, its doors were open to everyone—rich and poor, powerful and overlooked. In the pediatric ward, natural light streamed through wide, welcoming windows. The air smelled of clean linen, fresh flowers, and the faint, comforting scent of warm chamomile tea.
Dr. Lily Chen walked down the bright corridor in her crisp white lab coat, her stride steady and purposeful.
As she passed a corner room, she noticed a young intern standing nervously outside, holding a medical chart and hesitating to speak up during a senior consultant's rounds.
Lily stopped. She gently stepped beside the young intern, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
"Is something wrong?" Lily asked warmly.
The intern looked up, startled. "I... I noticed a pattern in the patient's vitals, Dr. Chen. But the senior doctors said it wasn't on the official protocol..."
Lily smiled, a bright, knowing expression that carried the wisdom of a lifetime of experience. She reached into her pocket, lightly touching the worn leather edges of her great-grandmother's journal.
