Chapter 10 - A New Beginning

One year later. Christmas Eve.
The blue house in Bellevue glowed beneath warm strings of holiday lights once again. Fresh snow carpeted the lawn, sparkling under the clear, starlit night sky. Inside, the house was filled with the mouthwatering scent of roasted turkey, pine, and cinnamon.
In the living room, a massive, beautifully decorated Christmas tree stood beside the window, towering over a mountain of wrapped presents. A plush playpen sat near the sofa, where a healthy, energetic one-year-old Noah was happily babbling and playing with a soft wooden toy train.
Gavin stood by the fireplace, wearing a dark green sweater, watching his son with a quiet, profound happiness.
A pair of warm arms wrapped around his waist from behind, and Emily rested her chin against his shoulder. Gavin turned his head, placing a gentle kiss on her temple as he pulled her around into his arms.
"He's almost asleep," Emily murmured happily, looking over at Noah, who was yawning widely while hugging his teddy bear.
"He takes after his mother," Gavin teased softly. "Can't stay awake past nine on Christmas Eve."
"Hey! I stayed awake through every single late-night feeding last week while you were finishing that non-profit tech project," Emily laughed softly, swatting his chest playfully.
Gavin smiled, pulling her closer. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet-lined box, holding it out between them.
Emily froze, her breath catching in her throat. "Gavin... what is this?"
"Open it," he whispered gently.
Emily took the box with trembling fingers and flipped the lid open. Inside sat a stunning platinum ring, featuring a brilliant emerald cut diamond flanked by two smaller sapphires—representing the three of them.
"We signed divorce papers five months before Noah was born because we forgot how to love each other," Gavin said, his voice deep and filled with intense emotion. "We spent the last year learning how to be a family. Now, Emily... I want to promise you the rest of my life. Not as the man I used to be, but as the man I am today."
He took the ring from the box, looking down into her shimmering green eyes.
"Emily Carter... will you marry me again?"
Tears of pure joy spilled over Emily's cheeks. She didn't hesitate for a single second. She threw her arms around Gavin's neck, pressing her lips to his in a deep, passionate kiss that carried away every remaining ghost of their past heartbreaks.
"Yes," she whispered against his lips, laughing through her tears. "Yes, Gavin! A thousand times yes."
Gavin slipped the ring onto her finger, holding her hand tightly in his. Over in the playpen, Noah let out a soft, happy babble, clapping his tiny hands together as if celebrating with them.

Gavin walked over to the playpen, picked up his son, and brought him over to join them by the fireplace. Holding his wife with one arm and his son with the other, Gavin looked out the window at the falling snow.
The broken husband who had marched up those porch steps a year ago seeking revenge had vanished forever. In his place stood a grateful man who had finally found his home—surrounded by the love, warmth, and family he would cherish for the rest of his days.
