Chapter 7 - Reclaiming My Life and My Empire

With the toxic weight of my marriage completely excised, I threw myself back into the world I had stepped away from to please Jameson: the leadership of Sterling Enterprises. For five years, I had played the role of the quiet, domestic wife, dimming my own light so that Jameson wouldn’t feel intimidated by my intelligence and wealth.

No more.

I formally took my seat as the Chief Executive Officer of Sterling Enterprises. My first order of business was to revitalize the local community that Jameson’s failed business ventures had impacted. I restructured the commercial properties we had foreclosed on, converting them into affordable housing and community arts centers.

The public response was overwhelming. The "Ruby Sterling Foundation" became a beacon of empowerment and philanthropy. I was no longer the quiet girl hiding in the shadow of a mediocre man. I was a force to be Recond with.

One evening, after a highly successful charity gala, I stood on the balcony of my penthouse, overlooking the shimmering city skyline. The wind gently rustled the silk of my dress—a brand-new, custom-made sapphire blue gown.

Clara Vance stepped out onto the balcony, holding two glasses of champagne. She handed one to me, her eyes reflecting the warm glow of the city lights.

“A toast,” Clara said, raising her glass. “To the true queen of the Sterling empire. You didn't just survive, Ruby. You conquered.”

I clinked my glass against hers. “To never dimming our light for anyone, Clara.”

As I took a sip of the sweet, crisp champagne, I felt a deep, radiating warmth in my chest. For the first time in years, I was truly happy. I had reclaimed my name, my fortune, and my self-respect. But there was still one final piece of the puzzle that needed to be put into place.
