Chapter 5 - Thorne & AssociatesAt 10:00 AM sharp, Amy and I walked into the sleek glass offices of Thorne & Associates downtown. We had left Frederick in the capable, caring hands of the hospital's pediatric nursing staff for just a few hours, promising to be right back.

Marcus Thorne was waiting for us in his corner office overlooking the Cumberland River. He was a tall man in his fifties with sharp silver hair and an impeccably tailored charcoal suit.
“Connor, Amy. Please, sit down,” Marcus greeted us warmly, gesturing toward a pair of leather armchairs. He handed Amy a bottled water before turning his attention to a stack of thick legal binders on his mahogany desk.
“I’ve just spoken with the district attorney and the county registrar,” Marcus began without preamble. “Because of the ironclad digital trail Connor provided—showing the exact dates of the forged signatures, the financial extortion, and the witness testimony from your cousin Mason—the DA has agreed to push forward with felony charges against Teresa Bradley. She is currently being held without bail due to her status as a flight risk and prior record of financial manipulation in another state.”
Amy gasped, covering her mouth with her hand. “Another state? Teresa lived somewhere else before?”
“Oh, absolutely,” Marcus said, pulling out a background check report. “About ten years ago, before she latched onto Connor, she pulled a similar property scam on an elderly relative in Ohio. She escaped jail time back then because the victim refused to press formal charges out of misplaced family loyalty. But this time? She’s dealing with the state of Tennessee, and Connor has all the evidence.”
Marcus turned his computer monitor toward us to display a live feed of county court documents. “Here is the emergency injunction I filed two hours ago. The judge has already signed it. The fraudulent quitclaim deed is officially voided, restoring full, unencumbered ownership of the property back to Connor Bradley. Furthermore, the local sheriff's department has been dispatched to your residence to execute the eviction and removal of all unauthorized occupants.”
A massive weight seemed to lift off Amy’s shoulders. The constant look of terror that had haunted her eyes for over a year finally began to dissipate, replaced by a profound, radiant sense of relief.
“Thank you, Marcus,” Amy whispered, her voice trembling with emotion. “I... I honestly felt like we were trapped in a nightmare with no way out.”
“You’re out now, Amy,” Marcus said with a reassuring smile. “Now, there’s one more matter we need to discuss. Your mother’s defense attorney has requested a brief hearing this afternoon. They want to offer a plea deal, but they also want Teresa to have a chance to speak directly with Connor. I advise against it, but the decision is ultimately yours.”

I didn’t hesitate for even a second.
“I'll talk to her,” I said coldly. “One last time. Let's go down to the precinct.”
