Chapter 10 - The Happy Ending
The sun was dipping below the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow over the entire estate.
Inside the spacious kitchen, my mother was humming a cheerful tune as she frosted a batch of cupcakes with the twins, who were covered in powdered sugar from head to toe. Their giggles floated out through the open French doors, a symphony of pure, unadulterated happiness.
I walked inside, pulling my mother into a warm, lingering embrace. She rested her soft cheek against my shoulder, patting my back with strong, steady hands.
“You look happy, my darling,” Rose whispered, smiling up at me.
“I am, Mom,” I said, looking around our magnificent home, surrounded by the people who mattered most in the world. “I have everything I ever dreamed of, and everything I ever fought for.”
We sat down at the large dining table together, the twins chattering excitedly about their day at school while my mother laughed, passing around plates of freshly baked treats.
