Chapter 7 - Clearing the Path

The muddy alleyway outside the shack echoed with the heavy, aggressive thud of boots. Old man Vane, flanked by half a dozen rough-looking thugs carrying iron bars and wooden bats, marched right up to the entrance. They had seen the fleet of black luxury SUVs parked at the end of the road and realized that a massive fortune had just landed in the slums.
Vane slammed his fist against the splintered door frame. "Open up, Monica! I know you've got rich visitors inside! We want to talk business, or things are going to get very ugly for you and your little brats!"
Before Vane could strike the door again, it swung wide open.
Stepping out into the rain was not Monica, but Marcus Vance and a half-dozen impeccably trained private security operatives in tactical gear. They moved with a chilling, synchronized precision that instantly brought Vane and his thugs to a dead stop.
"Who the hell are you?" Vane snarled, trying to mask his rising panic by brandishing his iron pipe. "This is my territory! You can't just—"
"You're trespassing on private property," Marcus interrupted, his voice ice-cold. He tapped a button on his lapel mic. "Area secured. Bring in the authorities."
At that exact moment, the wail of police sirens pierced the night air from both ends of the narrow street. Within seconds, a dozen local police cruisers converged on the alley, their flashing red and blue lights painting the weathered brick walls in harsh neon hues. Local precinct captains, who had long turned a blind eye to Vane’s extortion rings, jumped out of the leading cars—not to negotiate, but to salute the private security team.
Jonathan Sterling stepped out of the shack into the cool night air, holding Leo in his arms, with Monica, Emily, and Grace walking closely beside him under large black umbrellas held by bodyguards.
Vane’s face drained of all color as he recognized the billionaire's crest on the lapel of Jonathan’s suit. He dropped his iron pipe into the mud with a dull thud.
"Mr... Mr. Sterling," Vane stammered, his knees shaking. "I didn't know—we were just—"
"You've spent years terrorizing vulnerable families in this district," Jonathan said, his voice carrying an icy fury that silenced the entire alley. He looked at the local police captain. "Captain, I want this man and his associates investigated for every single crime they have committed over the past decade. If I see a single one of them walking free by morning, I'll personally buy this precinct and replace every officer from top to bottom."
"Yes, Mr. Sterling! Right away, sir!" the captain barked frantically, waving his officers forward.

Within minutes, Vane and his thugs were handcuffed and shoved into the back of the police vans, their reign of terror in the slums brought to an abrupt and permanent end.
Monica watched the flashing lights fade down the street, feeling a profound sense of weight lifting from her shoulders. The monsters who had haunted their lives were gone, vanished into the prison system forever.
