Chapter 10 - Forever After

Years later, the Moretti estate was no longer known across Chicago as a place of dark secrets and guarded iron gates. It had become a sanctuary of warmth, charity, and unyielding family devotion. The grand lawns that had once echoed with tension now rang out with the joyful laughter of children, the barking of dogs, and the lively chatter of family gatherings.
Inside the familiar mahogany study, the massive desk still stood proudly beneath the tall windows. But the atmosphere had entirely changed. The handgun that once rested menacingly near the leather folder was long gone, replaced by framed photographs capturing the vibrant, beautiful chapters of a life rebuilt from the ashes.
One framed picture showed a smiling little girl with honey-blond hair holding a scuffed pink hairbrush, standing proudly beside a towering man who looked down at her with infinite tenderness. Another captured a breathtaking wedding day under a canopy of winter snow. And a third featured a growing family—including a bouncing baby boy with his father’s dark hair—gathered around a sunlit garden table.
Lorenzo Moretti sat behind the desk, reviewing a stack of charitable foundation proposals, when the heavy oak door creaked open.
A young girl of seven, now tall, confident, and beaming with intelligence, marched straight across the expensive Persian rug. She didn't carry a pink hairbrush anymore—she carried a thick hardcover book of fairy tales, though she still wore mismatched socks just for fun.
“Daddy,” seven-year-old Emma announced, hopping up onto the leather chair opposite his desk.
Lorenzo looked up, setting his pen aside, a deeply affectionate smile spreading across his face.
“Yes, Chief?”
“Mommy says you have to take a break from the boring papers because dinner is ready, and if you don't come right now, the roast chicken will get cold.”

Lorenzo chuckled, standing up from his chair and walking around the desk. He scooped Emma up effortlessly into his arms, tossing her gently in the air as she giggled with pure delight, before resting her comfortably on his shoulders.
“Well, we wouldn't want to upset your mother, would we
