Chapter 10 - Forever Lawson

Five years later.

The private airstrip outside of Geneva was bathed in the soft, golden light of late afternoon. The Alps rose majestically in the background, their snow-capped peaks piercing the clear Swiss sky like jagged diamonds.

I stood beside the private jet, dressed in a comfortable cashmere sweater and dark jeans, watching two nine-year-old boys race across the tarmac with a pack of golden retrievers bounding frantically behind them.

Liam was winning, his long blond legs eating up the ground, while Noah laughed hysterically just a few steps behind, shouting something about cheating.

They had grown so much over the last five years. The shadows in their eyes were completely gone, replaced by the bright, confident light of children who knew they were loved, protected, and completely secure.

I felt a gentle touch on my arm. I turned to see Elena’s memory resting peacefully in my heart, but my present standing right beside me in the form of a quiet contentment I had never thought possible.

"They're going to tire themselves out before we even board the flight back to Chicago," Marcus said with a warm smile, handing me a bottled water.

"Let them," I replied, watching as Liam stopped, turned around, and waved frantically in our direction.

"Dad!" Liam yelled across the tarmac, his voice carrying clearly on the crisp mountain air. "Hurry up! We're missing the sunset!"

I smiled, a deep, abiding peace settling into my soul. I raised a hand, waved back at my sons, and started walking toward them.

The empire I built was vast, but the legacy I was leaving behind was priceless. We had weathered the storm, defeated the shadows, and found our way home.

And we were, finally and forever, the Lawson family.
