Chapter 9 - The Storm Breaks

The illusion of safety shattered three days later.

It was a Tuesday afternoon when the chaos erupted at Jagalki Market.

Alex was in the middle of a high-stakes meeting at The Obsidian when his phone buzzed violently. It was Kang-dae, calling from the market. His voice was breathless, ragged with panic.

“Boss! Stall number forty-two! It’s been attacked!”

Alex’s blood ran cold. The chair screeched backward as he stood up so violently it knocked over the mahogany table. “What?!”

“Park Chang-soo’s men! They didn’t touch the mother, but… they took Pretty. They snatched her while Ify was turned around getting stock from the back!”

The room went dead silent. Min-hyuk and the other syndicate captains stared at Alex in absolute terror. They had never seen the Boss look like this. The cold, calculating mask was gone, replaced by a terrifying, primordial fury that could tear the world apart.

“Gather every man we have,” Alex’s voice dropped to a demonic whisper that made the seasoned killers in the room tremble. “Lock down every port, every highway, every alley in Busan. If Park Chang-soo harms a single hair on that little girl’s head… burn his entire empire to ash.”

Within minutes, the entire city of Busan was plunged into a silent, lethal state of war. Syndicate cars flooded the streets, blocking exits, raiding Dong-gu faction hideouts, and tearing through the port districts with terrifying efficiency.

Inside a desolate, abandoned fishing warehouse near Pier 7, little Pretty sat on a wooden crate. Her schoolbag was tossed carelessly on the floor, and her glasses were slightly crooked, but she wasn't crying.

Park Chang-soo stood before her, smoking a cigarette, glaring down at her with a twisted sneer.

“Well, well,” Park laughed mockingly. “The great Alex Gene’s little pet. Let’s see how tough you are when your precious protector comes crawling on his knees to beg for your life.”

Pretty looked up at the scarred gangster, adjusted her slipping glasses with absolute calm, and sighed softly.

“You know,” Pretty said, her voice echoing in the damp concrete room, “kidnapping children is the absolute worst form of home training. My mother is going to be so disappointed in you.”

Park’s face darkened with rage. He raised his hand, stepping forward. “You little brat, I’ll—”

BOOM.

The heavy steel doors of the warehouse blew inward in an explosion of splintered iron and blinding white light.

Before the smoke could even clear, a hail of silenced gunfire echoed through the room. Dong-gu guards dropped like stones. And stepping through the smoke, framed by the harsh glare of headlights, was Alex Gene.

His black suit was drenched in rain, his eyes burned with lethal fire, and his hands gripped a heavy automatic pistol with absolute steadiness. Behind him poured dozens of elite syndicate enforcers, moving with terrifying, flawless synchronization.

Park froze, his blood turning to ice. He frantically reached for his holster, but before his fingers could even touch his weapon, Alex closed the distance with terrifying speed.

A single, brutal strike sent Park crashing backward over a crate, gasping for air as Alex’s boot slammed down onto his chest, pinning him to the floor.

“You touched her,” Alex whispered, his voice trembling with a rage so absolute it terrified even his own men.

“A-Alex… wait—” Park choked out, blood spilling from his lip. “She was just leverage—!”

“You had zero home training,” a small, calm voice interrupted from across the room.

Alex paused, his lethal gaze snapping instantly toward the wooden crate.

Pretty was sitting there, swinging her legs gently, looking mildly annoyed that her coloring book had fallen on the dusty floor.

“You ruined my coloring session,” Pretty said, pointing a finger at Park’s pinned body. “And you interrupted my day. That’s very impolite.”

Alex stared at her for three long seconds. Then, slowly, the terrifying demonic rage in his eyes melted away, replaced by an overwhelming, profound wave of relief. He kicked Park unconscious, handed his weapon to Kang-dae, and walked briskly across the warehouse.

He knelt down in front of the little girl, his hands hovering awkwardly as if he were afraid she might vanish like a ghost.

“Are you hurt, Pretty?” he asked, his voice cracking slightly.

Pretty looked at him, tilted her head, and reached out. With her small, clean fingers, she gently straightened the collar of his damp shirt.

May you like

“I’m fine, Alex,” she said softly. “You came. Just like a gentleman should.”

Alex closed his eyes for a moment, letting out a long, shuddering breath. When he opened them, the darkness of his past was gone, replaced entirely by a brand new light.
