Chapter 9 - The Wedding at Greenwich

Three months later, on a gorgeous mid-summer afternoon, the Whitman estate hosted the most breathtaking celebration in its history.
The grand backyard had been transformed into a magical outdoor sanctuary. White silk canopies stretched over lush green grass, surrounded by thousands of white roses, hydrangeas, and twinkling fairy lights suspended from the ancient oak trees.
Friends, close business associates, and local community members filled the seating area, their faces lit with joy. Conspicuously absent was any trace of legal drama, corporate stress, or past grief. Today was dedicated entirely to love, rebirth, and family.
At the front of the floral arch stood Derek Whitman. He wore an exquisitely tailored dark navy tuxedo, his hair trimmed, his face radiating strength, health, and profound happiness. Beside him stood Mark Lawson as his best man, and standing proudly in front of him were the three groomsmen of honor: Finn, Eli, and Jasper, each wearing adorable matching miniature navy tuxedos with tiny bow ties.
The gentle strings of a live string quartet began playing a sweeping, romantic acoustic rendition of Canon in D.
The crowd stood up in unison.
At the top of the veranda stairs appeared Clara Winslow.
She took everyone’s breath away. Clara wore a stunning, off-the-shoulder A-line gown of delicate ivory lace, with a long, trailing veil that caught the gentle summer breeze. She carried a simple bouquet of white roses and blue hydrangeas. Her hair was styled in soft, elegant waves, and her smile was bright enough to illuminate the entire sky.
She walked down the aisle alone—a strong, independent woman who had earned her place not through wealth or nobility, but through pure heart, courage, and unconditional devotion.
When her eyes met Derek’s, everything else in the world seemed to fade away. Derek felt a lump form in his throat, his eyes moistening as he watched his bride walk toward him.
When Clara reached the floral arch, Derek stepped forward, took her hand, and lifted her veil, whispering, "You are the most beautiful vision I have ever seen."
"I love you, Derek," she whispered back.
The ceremony was intimate, profound, and deeply moving. The officiant spoke not just of the union of two individuals, but of the sacred creation of a restored family.
When it came time for the vows, Derek held both of Clara’s hands in his.
"Clara," Derek spoke into the microphone, his voice strong and trembling with emotion. "Nine months ago, you walked into my house as a maid, but you became the angel of our lives. You healed wounds that money couldn't touch. You taught me how to love again, how to smile again, and how to be the father my sons needed. I promise to cherish you, honor you, protect you, and love you for all the days of my life."
Clara wiped a tear from her cheek and smiled softly. "Derek, when I first came to your home, I saw four broken hearts trapped in a quiet shadow. I fell in love with your boys instantly, and then I fell in love with the incredible, fierce, loving man who fought for them every single day. I promise to be a devoted wife to you, a loving mother to Finn, Eli, and Jasper, and to fill our home with laughter, warmth, and faith for the rest of our lives."
The officiant turned to the three boys standing proudly beside them. "And do you, Finn, Eli, and Jasper, accept Clara as your mother, to love her, honor her, and share your home with her forever?"
All three boys shouted in unison, "YES!" causing the entire congregation to erupt into warm, affectionate laughter.

"Then, by the power vested in me," the officiant declared with a broad smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife! Derek, you may kiss your bride!"
Derek pulled Clara into his arms and dipped her gently, kissing her with deep, passionate love as the crowd erupted into thunderous applause, cheers, and standing ovations.
