Chapter 4 - The Eviction

The doorbell rang, breaking the heavy silence of the house. Michael rushed to answer it, finding Dr. Phillips standing on the porch, his medical bag in hand, a look of deep concern on his face.

"Michael, what on earth is going on?" the doctor asked as he stepped inside.

"It’s worse than I thought, Arthur," Michael whispered, his voice tightly controlled. "Come into the living room. Please examine Lily. I need a full medical report, documented extensively. I am filing for divorce and pressing criminal charges tonight."

Dr. Phillips’ expression hardened. "Show me."

For the next half hour, Michael stood by Lily’s side, holding her hand tightly as Dr. Phillips gently examined her back and shoulders. The doctor’s face was a mask of professional calm, but Michael could see the underlying anger in the older man’s eyes.

"The muscle strain is severe," Dr. Phillips reported quietly to Michael, away from Lily’s hearing. "She has deep tissue bruising across her thoracic spine and shoulders from the extreme pressure of the improvised sling. Her skin is heavily irritated, bordering on infection in some areas from the constant friction. I’ve applied a topical anti-inflammatory and prescribed physical therapy. Physically, she will recover with rest and proper care. But emotionally... Michael, this child has been traumatized."

"I know," Michael said, his jaw tight. "Thank you, Arthur. Please email me the official medical report the second you get back to your clinic."

As Dr. Phillips left, heavy footsteps echoed from the top of the stairs. Rachel descended, having finally changed out of her pajamas into a designer dress. She carried a luxurious handbag, looking ready for a night out on the town. She walked past the living room, barely glancing at Lily or Michael, heading straight for the front door.

"Where do you think you’re going?" Michael’s voice boomed across the foyer.

Rachel paused, turning around with a look of utter boredom. "I’m going out for dinner with the girls. I need a break from all this negative energy. We can talk about whatever little issue you have tomorrow, Michael. Make sure the nanny handles the kids tonight."

"There is no nanny tonight, Rachel. And you aren't going out for dinner," Michael said, stepping into the foyer, blocking her path to the door. "You are leaving this house. Permanentely."

Rachel laughed, a sharp, ugly sound. "Oh, really? And how do you plan on enforcing that? This is my home, Michael. I’m your wife. You can't just kick me out because you’re having a bad day."

Michael pulled out his phone, tapping the screen twice. A video began to play. He held the screen up to Rachel’s face.

It was the footage from Wednesday morning. The camera clearly captured Rachel grabbing Lily by her hair, slamming her against the kitchen counter, and screaming at her to pick up the baby. Rachel’s face drained of all color instantly. The smug, arrogant expression vanished, replaced by a sudden, stark terror.

"I have two weeks of high-definition footage, Rachel," Michael said, his voice deadly calm. "I have a certified medical report from Dr. Phillips documenting the physical abuse of my daughter. My corporate legal team is already drafting emergency divorce papers as we speak. If you are not out of this house in ten minutes, I will call the Chicago Police Department, hand over this footage, and have you arrested for felony child abuse and aggravated assault on a minor."

Rachel stepped back, her breath hitching. "Michael... you... you wouldn't do that to me. Think of my reputation. Think of the press!"

"I don't give a damn about your reputation or the press," Michael hissed, stepping forward, his towering presence completely overwhelming her. "I care about my children. You have nine minutes left. Pack a single suitcase and get out. If I see your face in this house when the clock strikes seven, you will spend the night in a jail cell."

Realizing she had absolutely no leverage, the mask of the elegant socialite slipped away completely, revealing a desperate, frantic woman. She sprinted back up the stairs, throwing clothes into a suitcase in a panicked rush. Less than seven minutes later, she dragged her bag down the stairs, glaring at Michael with pure venom.

"You'll regret this, Michael! I’ll take half your fortune! I’ll ruin you in court!" she screamed as she rushed past him.

"Try me," Michael replied coldly.

He slammed the heavy front door behind her, locking it immediately. He walked over to the security panel, revoked her access codes, and changed the master security protocols. For the first time in months, the house felt lighter. The poison had been removed. But Michael knew the real work was just beginning.
