Chapter 9 - The Moretti Legacy

The wedding took place in late August at the Moretti Grand Hotel.
It was not a cold, corporate event filled with politicians and paparazzi. Instead, the grand ballroom was filled with the people who mattered most: the bakers, the neighborhood store owners, Daniel the waiter, Marco, the craftsmen who had rebuilt the bakery, and a few close friends.
Grace walked down the aisle wearing a simple, breathtaking ivory silk dress. She carried a bouquet of white roses and wheat stalks—a nod to the bakery that had brought them together.
Noah walked beside her, dressed in a miniature charcoal suit that matched Vincent’s, holding the ring box proudly.
When Vincent saw Grace walking toward him beneath the crystal chandeliers, the man who had faced down ruthless crime bosses and corporate titans wept openly, wiping his eyes as he took her hand at the altar.
They exchanged vows not of wealth or status, but of devotion, protection, and unconditional love.
During the reception, Daniel Walsh served the guests. When he brought a plate of artisanal cake to the head table, Vincent stood up, raised his glass, and called for the room’s attention.
"Thirty-six years ago," Vincent said into the microphone, his voice carrying clearly across the elegant room, "a boy sat in a freezing room while his mother gave him her last meal. For thirty-six years, that boy believed that poverty and pain were the ultimate truths of the world."
He looked down at Grace, holding her hand tightly.
"Then I saw Grace Carter. I saw a woman who proved that love is stronger than poverty, stronger than grief, and stronger than fear. She showed me that true power isn't about how much you own—it's about how much you give away."
Vincent raised his glass higher. "Tonight, I am announcing the creation of the Eleanor & Grace Moretti Foundation. I am endowing it with one hundred million dollars. Its sole mission will be to guarantee that no single mother in the city of Boston ever has to starve herself so her child can eat. We will pay rent, we will fund medical care, and we will protect every family that society has forgotten."
The room erupted into a deafening ovation. Guests stood on their feet, clapping and wiping away tears.
Grace leaned into Vincent, resting her head against his chest, feeling the steady, warm beat of his heart.

"Your mother would be so proud of you, Vincent," she whispered.
"She is," Vincent smiled, looking up at the warm light of the chandeliers. "Because she brought me to you."
