Chapter 10 - The Birthday Promise

One year later.

The bell above the door of Bellini’s Italian Steakhouse chimed softly.

Daniel Walsh, now the general manager of the hotel's restaurant operations, looked up from his podium and smiled broadly.

Walking into the dining room was Vincent Moretti, wearing a comfortable navy suit, holding the hand of his radiant wife, Grace. Beside them was nine-year-old Noah, wearing a sharp blazer, carrying a small wrapped present.

In Grace’s arms was a beautiful four-month-old baby girl with dark curls and bright blue eyes—little Eleanor Thomas Moretti.

"Mr. and Mrs. Moretti," Daniel said, bowing warmly. "Welcome back. Table fourteen is prepared for you."

They walked across the polished floor to the same table near the arched windows where, eighteen months earlier, Grace had sat counting her last forty-eight dollars.

The table was beautifully set with fine porcelain, fresh flowers, and four place settings.

They sat down together as a family. The winter sun shone brightly through the tall windows, casting a warm golden light across the white tablecloth.

The waiter brought out plates of delicious food: prime steaks, fresh pasta, roasted vegetables, and a tall pitcher of ice water.

Noah looked at his little sister, who was cooing happily in Grace’s lap, then looked at his stepfather.

"Vincent?" Noah asked.

"Yes, son?"

"Is it true that you used to be the boss of this whole hotel before you met Mom?"

Vincent smiled, looking across the table at Grace, whose eyes were filled with endless warmth and affection.

"I thought I owned it, Noah," Vincent said gently. "But I was just a man sitting alone in a big room. I didn't really own anything until your mother walked through that door."

Grace reached across the table, laying her hand over Vincent’s.

The waiter set down a rich chocolate birthday cake in front of Noah, topped with nine glowing candles.

Noah closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and blew out every single candle in one puff.

"What did you wish for, Noah?" Grace asked softly.

Noah looked around the table—at his mother, his baby sister, the grand restaurant, and the strong, loving man sitting at the head of the table who had changed their world forever.

Noah smiled, his eyes sparkling with pure, unshakable happiness.

"Nothing, Mom," Noah said softly. "I already have everything."

Vincent reached out and pulled both Grace and Noah close, wrapping his arm around his family. Outside the window, the snow fell softly over Boston, but inside the Moretti Grand, the room was filled with warmth, love, and a promise that would last for generations to come.
