Chapter 10 - The Bright Horizon

A year later, my life was unrecognizable in the best possible way.

Aura & Ember had expanded into a storefront downtown, complete with a cozy reading nook where local grief support groups met once a month. Sitting in my bright, sunlit office behind the shop, I looked out the large glass window at the bustling street outside.

My relationship with my mother had shifted into a cautious, distant civility. She occasionally sent holiday texts, which I politely answered, but the toxic dynamic of favoritism and emotional abuse was permanently broken. Mike’s business had downscaled significantly, forcing him to sell his oversized house and learn hard lessons about fiscal responsibility. Tyler, stripped of his unearned entitlement, had finally buckled down and started working part-time to earn his own way through college.

As for me? I had found my true strength.

I walked out of my office into the main showroom, breathing in the scent of fresh pine and amber. On the wall hung a delicate, framed gold lily necklace—a tribute to my daughter, and a reminder of the day I finally learned to choose my own worth.

The sun shone warmly through the glass, casting a golden glow across the floor. My heart was light, my spirit was free, and my future was entirely my own. I smiled, ready for whatever beauty the next chapter would bring.
