Chapter 9 - A New Beginning for Mark and Leo

Two years later, Mark’s life had completely transformed. He had thrown himself into his work and into being a devoted father to Leo. His heart, once broken and hardened by Tiffany’s treachery, had healed completely.
Through Leo’s primary school, Mark met Clara, a gentle and kind-hearted third-grade teacher who adored children and possessed a warmth that filled every room she entered. Clara didn't care about Mark's wealth or status; she loved his patience, his deep devotion to his adopted son, and his unwavering integrity.
Leo took to Clara instantly. For the first time in his life, he experienced what it felt like to have a mother figure who read him bedtime stories, cheered for him at soccer games, and kissed his scrapes without expecting anything in return.
When Mark brought Clara to meet me at my house, I watched how she held Leo’s hand and how Mark looked at her with genuine, radiant happiness. There were no hidden motives, no arrogance, and no cold ambition in Clara’s eyes—only pure, simple affection.
One evening, Mark came to see me alone, holding a small velvet box in his hands.

"Grandma," Mark said softly, sitting on the stool next to my favorite armchair. "I'm going to ask Clara to marry me. But this time, I wanted to ask your blessing first."
I looked at my grandson, seeing the proud, wise man he had become through all his trials. "Mark, my dear boy, you don't need my blessing, but you have it with all my heart. Clara is a diamond. Hang onto her."
