Chapter 6 - The Exit and the Aftermath

Tiffany realized she had lost completely. Her grand scheme—to secure Mark’s vast family fortune while maintaining her secret affair with Nick—had unraveled in a matter of five minutes because of a glass of ice water and a sharp six-year-old boy.

She turned her venomous gaze toward her son, who was standing quietly by my side, holding my hand tightly. "You!" she shrieked at Leo. "You stupid, clumsy little brat! Look what you did! You ruined everything!"

She took a menacing step toward Leo, raising her hand as if to slap him right there in front of everyone.

Before she could touch him, I moved faster than a woman my age had any right to move. I brought the rubber tip of my cane down hard onto the toe of her left foot—the one missing its shoe.

Tiffany shrieked in pain and stumbled back into Nick’s arms.

"Don't you dare touch that child," I warned her, my voice hard as steel. "You have neglected and used this boy as a pawn for far too long. If you lay a single finger on him, I will spend every penny of my retirement fund to ensure you spend the rest of your youth behind bars for child abuse and fraud."

Mark stepped in front of Leo, shielding his stepson-to-be with his broad shoulders. "Leo stays with us tonight, Tiffany. You are in no mental state to care for a child. Go."

Defeated, humiliated, and stripped of her dignity, Tiffany let Nick hustle her out the side exit, her muddy train dragging behind her like a fallen flag.
