Chapter 7 - Exposing the Real Traitors
As the dust began to settle on the financial front, the state attorney general's office moved forward with its investigation. It turned out that Mark's gambling went deeper than we initially realized. To avoid jail time, Mark agreed to a plea deal, offering full disclosure of how the funds were manipulated.
During the depositions, a fascinating and ugly truth emerged. Margaret hadn't come up with the "cheater’s kid" lie entirely on her own.
It was revealed that Jessica, desperate to secure a larger share of the family trust for her own children, had actively forged a fake email thread implying I had been unfaithful during a business trip years ago. She had fed this fabricated evidence to Margaret, knowing the matriarch’s deep-seated hatred for me would do the rest.
When Marcus Vance brought us the transcript of the deposition, Daniel and I sat in silence. The level of calculated malice within that family was staggering. They had weaponized a child’s identity for a few extra percentage points in a bank account.
"What do we do with this?" Daniel asked, rubbing his temples, exhausted by the sheer depth of his family’s depravity.

"We let the law handle Jessica," I said softly. "Forgery, conspiracy to commit fraud, and her involvement in the foundation’s collapse mean she won't be enjoying any wealth in Indiana. Her name is already mud."
I felt a profound sense of validation, but more than that, a deep sense of relief. The truth was entirely out in the open. Every lie had been dissected under oath, and every actor in the plot to humiliate my daughter had been utterly exposed to the public eye.
