Chapter 10 - A New Dawn for Lily

Five years later, the summer sun shone brightly over our expansive backyard.
It was Lily’s twelfth birthday.
Our lawn was filled with laughter, music, and the delicious aroma of a backyard barbecue. Dozens of Lily's school friends, our neighbors, and my sister—now fully recovered and chasing her own toddler around—filled the yard.
There were no glass doors separating anyone from the celebration. Every door was wide open, welcoming the summer breeze and the joyful noise of a thriving, happy childhood.
Lily stood near the center of the yard, surrounded by her friends. She had grown tall, confident, and possessed an empathetic, kind heart that drew people to her naturally. She excelled in school, loved to paint, and knew, without a shadow of a doubt, exactly who she was and how deeply she was valued.
Daniel stood next to me by the grill, his arm wrapped tightly around my waist. We looked out at the beautiful life we had fought for and built upon the foundation of truth and unconditional love.
"She’s spectacular," Daniel whispered, kissing the side of my head.

"She is," I agreed, leaning into his chest. "She’s everything they tried to break, but couldn't."
Just then, Lily caught our eyes from across the yard. She waved enthusiastically, her face illuminating with that same brilliant, radiant smile we cherished. She started walking over to us, her feet light, her heart unburdened, stepping confidently into a bright and beautiful future that belonged entirely to her.
