Chapter 9 - The Irish Rose

Six months later.

The historic parish church in a quiet, coastal village in County Galway, Ireland, was filled with white roses and soft candlelight. Outside, the green hills met the wild blue Atlantic Ocean under a clear summer sky.

Inside, soft harp music floated through the ancient stone arches.

Dominic stood near the altar, wearing a tailored navy-blue tuxedo. Beside him as his best man was his old friend and new chief of legitimate operations, looking sharp and proud.

In the front pews sat a small group of close friends, trusted staff, and former colleagues who had helped rebuild the Rourke family's life over the past half-year.

The harp music transitioned into a gentle, uplifting Irish melody.

The heavy oak doors of the chapel opened.

Noah stepped down the stone aisle first, looking handsome in a small matching tuxedo, carrying a velvet pillow with two simple gold rings. Right behind him was Grace, dressed as a flower girl in a lace white dress, tossing pink rose petals onto the runner with a bright, sunny smile.

Then came Mara.

Dominic’s heart stopped.

She was breathtaking. She wore an elegant, timeless ivory silk gown with long lace sleeves and a sweeping train. Her red-brown hair was styled in soft braids adorned with tiny white baby's breath flowers. She carried a bouquet of Irish white roses and heather.

She walked down the aisle with grace, poise, and a radiance that illuminated the entire stone chapel. There was no trace of the timid nanny, nor the cold soldier—only a radiant woman stepping into a future filled with love.

When she reached the altar, Dominic stepped forward, taking her hand in his. Her hand was warm, steady, and soft.

"You look stunning," Dominic whispered, his voice thick with emotion.

"You don't look too bad yourself, Boss," Mara whispered back with a cheeky, beautiful wink.

The elderly parish priest smiled warmly at the couple, raising his hands in blessing.

"Dearly beloved," the priest began, his voice booming softly through the church. "We are gathered here today in the sight of God to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast... It protects always, trusts always, hopes always, perseveres always."

As the priest spoke the traditional vows, Dominic and Mara looked into each other's eyes, seeing the journey that had brought them to this sacred moment—from the dark, rain-swept nursery at 3:00 AM to the warm, sunlit sanctuary of this coastal chapel.

"Dominic Rourke," the priest asked, "do you take Mara Keene to be your lawful wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part?"

Dominic looked at Mara, his gaze unwavering. "I do."

"And Mara Keene," the priest turned to her, "do you take Dominic Rourke to be your lawful wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part?"

Mara smiled, a small tear of pure happiness sparkling in her green eye. "I do."

Noah stepped forward, presenting the rings. Dominic took the smooth gold band and slipped it onto Mara’s finger. Mara took the matching band and slipped it onto Dominic's finger.

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the priest declared with a joyful smile. "What God has joined together, let no man put asunder. You may kiss the bride!"

Dominic reached out, wrapping his arms around Mara’s waist, pulling her close, and kissed her deeply. The congregation erupted into warm applause and cheers. Noah and Grace cheered loudly, jumping up and down at their feet.

When they parted, Mara rested her forehead against Dominic's chest, laughing happily as he swept her up off her feet.

"Ready for our next mission, Mrs. Rourke?" Dominic asked with a grin.

May you like

"As long as you're my partner, Mr. Rourke," Mara replied, kissing his cheek.

They turned to face their family and friends, holding hands, with Noah and Grace holding onto their sides, as they walked down the aisle together into the bright, beautiful Irish sunshine.
