Chapter 9 - Rebuilding the Foundations

With the legal storm finally behind us, I focused my energy on helping the Parkers find a permanent home.

Using my network and a few connections in the local real estate market, I managed to find a beautiful, newly renovated three-bedroom house just three streets over from mine. It had a larger yard, a modern kitchen, and—most importantly—a clean title with absolutely no federal classifications.

Because of the expedited release of their frozen funds and the restitution paid from the sale of my parents' house, David and Michelle were able to secure the property with ease.

On a bright, crisp Saturday morning, I walked over to their new home to help them unpack.

"You really didn't have to do this, Sarah," Michelle said, laughing as she handed me a roll of packing tape. "You've already done more than enough."

"I like packing," I said, taping up a box of kitchen supplies. "It’s all about logistics. And as you know, logistics is my specialty."

David walked in from the garage, carrying a heavy toolbox, a wide smile on his face. "The dog loves the yard, Sarah. He’s already chased three squirrels. It’s perfect."

"I'm glad," I said, looking around the bright, sunlit living room.

This was what a home was supposed to look like. It wasn't supposed to be a battlefield of egos or a repository for family secrets. It was supposed to be a place of safety, laughter, and new beginnings.

"We’re having a housewarming barbecue next weekend," Michelle said, leaning against the kitchen counter. "And you are the guest of honor. No exceptions."

"I wouldn't miss it for the world," I smiled.
