Chapter 8 - The Truth Unmasked

It was two o'clock on a rainy Tuesday morning when Spencer’s lead IT investigator knocked on the door of his private office.
“Mr. Davis,” the technician said, placing a flash drive on the desk. “We found it. The security footage from the manor’s side entrance from the night Miss Reyes left was deleted from the main server, but we recovered a backup from the off-site cloud storage.”
Spencer plugged the drive into his laptop. A video window popped up, showing the side entrance of his home under the flickering halogen lights in the heavy rain.
At 11:14 PM, a luxury sedan pulled up. Two minutes later, Victoria Vance and legal counsel Harrison stepped out of the study and led Elena toward the door. Elena was crying, holding her single suitcase. But before she got into the car, Victoria reached out, grabbed Elena’s arm tightly, and spoke into her face with clear, aggressive hostility.
Spencer zoomed in on Victoria’s face. He could see the venom in her expression.
“Pull up the audio logs from the study intercom system,” Spencer commanded, his voice cold as ice. “The system automatically records high-decibel interactions for security.”
Ten minutes later, Spencer sat in total silence as the recorded voices of Victoria, Harrison, and Elena played through his office speakers. He heard Victoria threaten to destroy his company. He heard Harrison threaten to take Sophie away from him. And he heard Elena’s quiet, heartbreaking sacrifice:
“If I leave, it breaks his heart and Sophie’s... You’re forcing me to destroy him either way.”
Spencer leaned back in his chair, his hands clenched into tight fists until his knuckles turned white. The grief that had weighed on his chest for a month instantly burned away, replaced by a dark, searing fury.
She hadn't abandoned them. She had sacrificed everything she had to protect him.
The next morning at nine o'clock, the Davis Enterprises board of directors gathered in the grand boardroom on the fiftieth floor. Victoria Vance sat at the head of the table, a smug smile on her face as she prepared to call the vote to remove Spencer as Chief Executive.
“If everyone is seated,” Victoria announced, clearing her throat, “we will begin the vote regarding the restructuring of executive leadership due to Mr. Davis’s inability to maintain stable oversight—”
The heavy double doors of the boardroom slammed open.
Spencer walked in, flanked by four uniformed police officers and the city’s chief prosecutor. His posture was commanding, his eyes blazing with absolute authority.
“The only thing being restructured today, Victoria, is your freedom,” Spencer said, his voice echoing across the quiet room.
Victoria’s smile vanished. “Spencer, what is the meaning of this outrage?”
Spencer tossed a thick binder of documents onto the middle of the long conference table. “That binder contains full documentation of illegal account manipulation, extortion, and corporate sabotage carried out by you and Harrison over the past six months. You used shell accounts to create fake paper trails to frame me, and then used those forged documents to blackmail a vulnerable citizen.”
The board members gasped, picking up the documents and reading through the bank transfers and intercepted emails.
Harrison stood up, pale as a sheet. “Spencer, wait—”
“Officer,” Spencer said, not taking his eyes off Victoria. “Arrest them.”
As the police officers stepped forward and slapped handcuffs onto Victoria’s wrists, she glared at Spencer, her composure completely shattering. “You’re ruining everything for a diner waitress! She’s nothing!”
Spencer walked right up to her, his face inches from hers. “She is worth ten of you. And you will spend the next ten years behind bars thinking about that.”
As Victoria was escorted out of the room in tears, the board members sat in stunned silence. The chairman of the board stood up, looking at Spencer with deep respect.
“Spencer... we had no idea,” the chairman said. “What do you want us to do?”

Spencer looked out the floor-to-ceiling windows at the city sprawling below in the morning sunlight.
“I want my company secured,” Spencer said quietly. “And then I am going to bring Elena home.”
