Chapter 9 - Morning Light Over St. Louis

Six months later, the sun rose over a magnificent estate on the outskirts of St. Louis.

The mansion, once quiet, solemn, and sterile, was now filled with the sound of laughter, light, and warmth. Colorful toys lined the hallway, and children's drawings were proudly taped onto the expensive kitchen cabinets.

Ethan walked out onto the sunlit patio carrying a sleeping baby Emma in his arms. She was thriving, her cheeks rosy and healthy, her laughter a constant melody in the house.

Lily ran across the grass toward him, wearing a bright yellow sundress, holding up a framed painting she had completed for school.

"Look, Dad!" Lily shouted happily, using the word that brought a proud, warm smile to Ethan’s face every single time. "I painted our family!"

Ethan sat down on the bench, holding Emma close while looking at Lily's painting. It showed three figures holding hands under a bright sun, with two angels flying high above them in the blue sky.

"That's beautiful, Lily," Ethan said, his eyes glowing with genuine happiness. "Who are the angels?"

"That's Mama Claire and baby Abigail," Lily explained softly, wrapping her arms around Ethan’s waist. "They're watching over us together. Making sure we're never lonely again."

Ethan kissed the top of Lily's head, feeling a profound sense of peace wash over his spirit. The dark winter night in the emergency room felt like a distant dream, replaced by a morning full of love and infinite hope.
